Is DME backup needed to remove MHD on 335is?

I originally used MHD to bring 335is to stage2+ map but I wiped my phone so I lost the backup that was made.

I know mhd can be removed and factory tune put back but just want to make sure it will put the 335is tune and not the 335i tune/

MHD will apply the latest stock map available for your car. If that is an is or PPK car then the appropriate bin will be applied.

Ok thanks.

Just curious on this... does it get like a generic PPK/is map or it's stored somewhere on the car as a backup from stock and just pulls it from there?

Because MHD won't connect to official BMW resources to pull the map right?

My understanding is that it applies your stock backup and if that is not found, it applies the latest stock BMW software for your ECU version as if BMW updated your ECU to the latest code.

If you use Ista p to flash - it will flash the appropriate version based on your vehicle VO.

If you use winkfp - you will need to know what you want in there.

From what I understand MHD uses the same sort of process that ISTA-P does. It uses the cars VO to work out what hardware and software file to combine to produce the correct flash file.

In the DATEN files BMW has a load of text files that give a version history of each ECU. There's different option codes that relate to PPK, "is" model, auto, manual, DCT and a load of others that determine what to flash to the car. This allows MHD to have an available variation for every car out there without having to store 1GB of binary files.

Did you end up finding a solution? Buying a second hand 335is soon and want to revert the tune back to 100% stock without any traces of MHD. Does MHD remove itself and does it house the stock map for the 335is? Not the 335i?

I never tested it out but I'm sure it applies the 335is stock tune.
