335i N54 turbo whine followed by limp mode light
I have a 2008 335i e93 with an N54 engine. A few months ago it started to whine on acceleration as I entered the highway followed by the limp mode warning light on the dash. Car was driving fine did not actually go into limp mode. I pulled over turned off the car and back on. Warning light went away. Thought it might be the charge pipe so I replaced with VRSF charge pipe with a tial BOV. That did not rectify the issue. Took it to a local BMW repair shop. They told me my rear inlet was cracked and off the turbo. I just replaced both inlets with VRSF inlets. Don’t get me started on how difficult that was! E93 has much more challenges that most e series cars don’t have so several of the videos left some things out. Anyway, I digress. I drove it after I got everything put back together and the whine is still there on acceleration and I still get the limp mode warning light but no actual limp mode.
Any advice on what the problem is and how to go about fixing it? Thank you for the help in advance! |

First step....scan for codes. The car will pretty much tell you what's going on. Probably under boost codes from a bad turbo(s).

engine whine on acceleration
I have an OBD2 code reader that pairs up to the Torque app on my aftermarket Eonon headunit. I don't trust what it is telling me. Nothing really shows most of the time when I scan for error codes and it never clears anything. I am purchasing an MHD Wi-Fi adapter and a full tuning license so I will wait for those results to really did into what's going on. I am new to the tuning world of BMW and the N54 engine.
