Increased Battery Discharge
Went to drive from work to get lunch, car wouldn't start, a message popped up on screen that said "Increased Battery Discharge"
Ive called the NRMA and told them, the guy said he will get the tech to bring a battery, should i be concerned about the battery he brings? does it need to be something specific? There is a Supercheap Auto pretty close that I can get to. Cheers guys

I have the Carly app, it can do it,
kinda nervous to use it though :/ Is it normal for a battery to go flat so suddenly? |

Are you still on the original battery? If so its totally normal for it to crap out on you as its getting too old.

Looks like it's flat, it's reading 8v. And 30% capacity.
The NRMA guy didn't have an AGM battery for the car so he left and was going to try to find one for me. I drove home and parked and he called to say he found one, he came to my place, tested it again and it was at 50% this time. He suggested instead of forking out $380 for a new battery, buy a charger. He suggested a CTEK 5 Amp charger for $99 What do you guys think, I'm happy to buy one, it will be good to be able to read the charge from now on. Is there another model I should look at instead |

My BMW battery lasted 6 years and crapped out. Mind you it was still working but started getting battery errors pop up...
I installed a bosch S5 and since the battery specs were different to the BMW battery I had Pete register the battery and also code the car with different CCA AH specs with his autologic. don't panic about having to register the battery ASAP, I drove my car as a daily for 8 months before I got around to getting it registered and 3.5 years later my battery is still going strong Back in 2012 Pete use to charge a lobster for this work with his autologic... |

If you want to buy a CTEK charger, go to Frankies Auto Electrics at Albion Park Rail. They have them on sale last time i checked for $49!!!! They are awesome!

I guess as long as you register the amp of the battery AFAIK it sets a he car to recharge at the right rate that's all registering does I think

See my post above Flex. Registering just matches the battery and car at the same amps so it recharges properly. If you don't register battery then the car might think you have a 60 amp battery when you rally have a 70 amp and then undercharge the battery causing it to go flat sooner. Anyway that's the way it was explained to me but I'm probably conpletely wrong lel

after that IBS think that battery new and fully charged and charges it accordingly if you install new battery but do not perform registration car electronics will overcharge battery, it lose water and lose its capacity much faster

Ideally you'll have a AGM battery and have it registered to suit.
It seemed like a load of BS to me when I first got my car in 2012 (bear in mind most guys back then hadnt changed their batteries) but talking to my BMW dealer they confirmed it had to be coded and some searches on teh forum also. Basically as the battery ages the charge cycle differs to suit the aging battery. This prolong the life of the battery and as stated if you replace the battery without registering the battery it can essentially overcharge the battery causing premature failure. Having said that there would be thousands of cars out there with a new battery thats never been coded i bet |

So I purchased a 5AMP 8 stage charger, took the battery out and have it on the floor in my living room charging over night.
Hopefully it makes it to stage 8 :/ |

this happens to me quite often since I drive such short distances to work. Or when I dont drive the car for more than 5 days. car starts but says high discharge. I just use the CTEK and all is good.
Saved my partners Mazda today with the CTEK yesterday since she left the lights on all night and her battery was flat. |

Well what I have read and been told if you don't register the battery what happens is that due to not having the right charge will overtime will blow your alternator which will lead to potentially destroying your cambus system. Just throwing that out there but hey everyone has theor own opinions.

Any update on the status of your battery? Have you had to replace it since?
