Ambient Lighting

Hi everyone. I was scrolling the iDrive setting menu the other day and just realized that there is this ambient lighting setting. I have the classic and sport mode. I tried switching it from classic to sport but seems like nothing changed. So, what does this function do?

Turn up the brightness, and do it at night. It changes the ambient lighting in the cabin from Amber (Classic) to White (Sport).

Is ambient lighting standard or an option? I've never noticed it before in my car, at least I don't think I have!

Very hard to notice the difference between the white and amber ambient lights (on the door panels) with a black interior.

Easiest way for me to tell the difference, is by looking at the cup holder, ashtray area.

Here's a pic I took about 2 weeks ago. Sorry for the towel trying to keep my seats from getting dirty. Look above the chrome door handle on the passenger door. You will see a white long white strip. It does this on all 4 doors or two doors depening what you have GC or Coupe. As others have said as well, it will light up other various parts of the vehicle too with whatever color you have selected (orange or white).

I still don't understand how white is supposed to be "sportier"... The human eye associates warmer colors with more movement, and thus in essence, speed. It seems like the colors should be flipped around.

On black interior it's very dim. I could not see the difference at first.

It should have option of being bright like in the new X5. The led strips in the X5 look quite nice when lit up at night, reminds me of business/first class plane cabin.

I've changed footwell lights, before were yellowish as the roof light. My car has lighting package (has leds but too little light and yellowish)

The only yellow light my car has is inside the glove department. Everything else is white LED's. Does your BMW have the white lights under the door handles and under the door like this?

Aren't the lights under the door and handles standard?

I'm guessing so. Maybe my question should have been. Why were the footwell and roof lights yellow if you have the lighting package? Not trying to be a smart@$$, just curious that's all.

I never notice anything. How do you adjust the brightness? Is it via the iDrive menu?

I had to change all LEDs (except the roof 'cause I don't know how to do it) because they are yellowish and give very little light...

Too dim on a black interior. I was hoping you'd have a nice warm orange glow on the door panels, but you can barely notice it. Other cars have much better interior LED ambient lighting. The current S Class is an example of a lot of ambient lighting.

I didnt change anything on mine. I think it must simply be the difference in white balance between different cameras.

Also depending on the sensitivity of the camera and depending on the car interior color, it would be different intensity of the light on the photos

Hey buddy, I know it will be a silly question but ... Did you set in the iDrive the intensity of the ambient light at 100%, prior to changing the LEDs? I see you everywhere, haha ...
