Enable DVD playback with Parking Brake off?

I know you can watch a DVD video if the car is in Neutral or Gear with the Parking Brake up.

Out of curiosity, is it possible to hack the software to enable playback when the brake is not pulled up?

Not that I plan on driving while watching Inception here but I'm interested if this has been done or is possible.

The safety interlock is triggered by both the e-brake and wheel sensors. As soon as the vehicle starts moving, the screen will turn black. Disabling sensors can cause adverse effects to other control modules that depend on these signals.

Coding can remove the safety interlock if desired, but it's pretty much all or nothing.

Does the same, but can be turned on/off at any time with a simple command of the blinker stalk.

2009+ iDrive models are CIC, which allow DVD playback. 2008 models were CCC, and do not have DVD playback abilities.

There's a variable in the CIC coding that does just that, enable video with handbrake off. The screen will still go black with the warning once the car starts moving, though.

So will this work on 2011 models? Has anyone tried it. Does the unit come with instructions?

Just installed on a MY11 M3 convertible last Friday, everything works perfectly.

Full instructions are included, I'm available for technical support if needed.

Only 2 wires are cut, this is a 30 minute installation at most.

It's not any harder than hardwiring a radar detector.

Just did the CiC Retrofit and had the DVD in motion enabled with the coding. Works great. My son watched Training Day while on the way to the Hobby Shop today. No warning messages or anything.

For those of you who have or are considering the mods4cars modules (SmartTV, SmartTop, etc), check out this thread:
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=473315

Basically, there was a change on certain newer cars which requires power to be accessed from a different location than is in the manual. Even though everything will appear to be working correctly, there still might be a problem.

I installed smarttv last week and I noticed that my comfort access doesn't work with the trunk latch after the car has been idle for a while. Apparently the smarttv is preventing the car from properly 'communicating' with itself. Additionally, the battery may be prematurely draining as well.

Just something to keep in mind.

Check out this link for a complete explanation of the problem: http://www.wit-usa.com/sms/db/smartt...BATTERY/en.php

This +12V change was required on earlier modules, current modules has a hardware change within the board that does not require this step.

If you have any questions pertaining to the modules, please email myself or mods4cars directly so misinformation is not posted on the forums.

I have the TVinMOTION module for my 2009.. It works great no problems with it.. I made a trip down to Maryland in my M3 about 5 months ago and it performed flawlessly playing DVDs for my passenger... the dvd playback is well integrated into the idrive.. i can quickly switch between movie and nav and even take phone calls which pause the playback.. nav voice speaks over the movie just like it does when playing music.. visual turns don't popup over the movie though..

I can turn it off if i want by using a stalk procedure.. but BMW service hasn't given me any hassles with it.. I've even gotten two iDrive software updates since I had the module installed and it still works flawlessly.
