Tinting advice: DIY...or pro is a must?
Looking at LLumar IRX 50% for all windows+rear and possibly Air80 for the windshield. Is this a DIY job or a pro is a must? Any pitfalls? Reasonable price range?

Last year I had Llumar pinnacle 35% tint professionally done all around on my 340i and nothing on the windshield. It was $440. After seeing the quality job they did, I don’t think I would ever try it myself.

The price seems ok for $450, I got quoted the same here. I am mainly looking this for my planned 2018-2020 X2 purchase next year. For my old trusty 2012 328i I would do it, but only as a DIY.
I would like to try DIY on a small area like the rear quarter window, but looks like it's not sold directly to consumers. On Ebay it's being sold, but no way to verify if genuine.

It is not rocket science, but if you don't have experience - it will show! Plenty of examples on the streets where you see tint and you think "Ahh, he did it himself...".
Have it done professionally and move on. There are other things in life to spend time on and save money from. The professionally applied tint on my Audi done 10 years ago look as on day 1!

I bought mine on eBay, it was the real thing. Sources like LLumar and 3M don't allow sales by retailers and only sell in bulk, but some enterprising shops cut, package and sell their tint on eBay. They hide their shop affiliation, even shipping using an individual's return address.
