Chirping sound at idle
Hope someone can give some advice.
What sounds like a small chirping sound from a belt when cold is now still there when engine is warmed up. If I press the throttle a touch and hold revs at 1000 or 1100 it’s gone. From what I can see belt and tensioner system are expensive to service. Also I can’t see a definitive guide on what mileage and age the belts should be changed It’s a June 2018 F82 comp 59,600 miles All servicing done on time and oil and filter down every 6000 miles. It’s booked in for Dct oil and filter service next week so perhaps they can check it then Thanks in advance. |

Sounds like PCV failure/valve cover. Try cranking the oil cap open a bit and if the chirp goes away, it’s the valve cover.
I thought it would be the belts for me as well since the chirp didn’t disappear when I opened the oil cap a bit but it was diagnosed as PCV failure. Replace the valve cover and it’s now good! Happened at like 84k on my 2016. Hope this helps! |

I took a video of the tensioner and at idle speeds you can actually see it moving left and right Is that normal? Having seen a diy video. Changing the tensioner looks straight forward enough. I’m tempted to change it for sake of the €180 part. |
