In your photo, I don’t see a trail of coolant from the radiator connection that could leak onto the vertical hose. Unless it’s on the other side the hose.

Put a new o ring. It has to be a close match to OEM size to make a deal.

I just ordered both the hoses to be safe. I'm going to order a o ring kit for the future.

Some idiot hit my car in a parking lot today and didn't leave a note. I've had it for 1 week.

I'm guessing a little over $1000.

I wouldn’t replace the upper radiator hose unless it is leaking as well. Just save the new hose for later on.

The leaking vertical hose goes all the way to the firewall and can be tricky to access the rear connector. A suggestion: You can remove the o ring from your new hose and just swap it into the hose the car has on now.

Sucks about the parking lot hit!
Doesn’t look to be about $1k in damages if you can DIY. Paint looks to be Monaco or deep sea blue? You can find a used fender in the same color and swap it out.

You may be able to short term fix it with an O ring (here's a set I bought: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N6QV3N4/) but you really should replace the hose, as well as the small one coming out of it going across the radiator to the expansion tank, and the Mickey Mouse flange/hose. And while you're doing that you're 75% into the oil filter housing gasket which is bound to be leaking, so might as well do that as well.

Just be prepared for radiator to crack... it's a thing.

For the vertical hose end connector there is only one o-ring, inside the connector. Your upper hose looks ok, there are two large o-rings, one inside each of the large end connectors, but not on the small bibb for the vertical hose.

I would carefully remove the o-ring from the new vertical hose and measure it. The o-ring on the old hose may be compressed and deformed to give you a good measurement.

Your serpentine belt has a shine on the backing, looks like it has been dragging over some pullies. There are rubber deposit on the idler too, and looks like some greasy grime on the idler bearing?

Bummer on the parking lot scratch. Hopefully that was just paint transfer from a plastic bumper and the scratches are not too deep. See how much of those you can buff and polish out.

Thanks for all the help. I will try just the long hose first. I will take my time and use heat. Hopefully it comes apart easily. The top hose likes like its been replaced before.

I would be VERY CAREFUL HOW you remove the Upper Radiator Hose from the Radiator. Plastic that is 16 years-old, and has been through several thousand heat cycles is VERY BRITTLE. A cracked radiator will greatly increase your time & expense.

ANYONE who has successfully separated those fittings, please offer specific tips. I have NOT, but my understanding is that you do NOT Twist the fitting, as there is a locating notch.
George
I failed my first try. After that, I just buy the part because I assume I am going to break it when removing the hoses.

Thats why I ordered both. Its better to be safe than sorry. The body shop estimated the damage to be about $1300.

Yeah, as Serf is saying, I don't think that's $1K. Still sucks of course.

Your car is the same color as mine, and while it's kind of hard to tell from such close up large photos, I think I have a "hit" just like that on my rear left wheel arch and back door. Parking lot accident as well. Sadly, it's something that shows up well in a dark-colored car like ours (if it was white or silver, I'd doubt you'd see it). I rubbed it out as well as I could with compound and might some day touch up the paint...but meanwhile, it's a reasonable battle scar on a 15 year old car with 230K miles.

If you haven't already, try www.touchupdirect.com for OEM paint spray cans.

Mine is black 2. I got a 2nd quote and it was $1500 and they would use a new fender. How much heat was used on the coolant hoses?

Spray penetrating oil around the fitting tonight.
You can run the engine for a TINY bit (about 2 minutes) to warm things up and loosen that o ring.
Place a drain pan under the car, it’ll leak coolant from there when the vertical hose comes off.
Fill with appropriate coolant.

Are you replacing the entire vertical/heater hose?

Maybe. It depends on how hard it will be to remove the hose from by the firewall. I would prefer to just do the o ring.

I agree, just do the o ring.
You’ll need an angled pick to remove the o rings from each hose. Don’t damage the new o ring when removing it.
