Just my logic Now if you are looking for a consumable set of tires and are less concerned with max performance, maybe the 500s are for you. For a well priced track day tire though, i might go with something like federal 595 RSRR. |

UPDATE: Just drove back from Firestone store with the new Indy 500's on car. I think I got a great deal; Tires, Instl/balancing/etc/ Road Hazard Warranty/4 wheel alignment - $802.79. Not one mark on wheels, no marks on car. Time will tell now. Only concern is that they put 36psi in front (same as door placard), 44psi in rear (door placard day 41); I told them I thought that this was too high, especially the rears, but I will adjust if necessary and bring car back for tire wear check in 5,000 miles. Thanks everyone for responses. |

I went with the Indy 500 tires and am already in need of replacement in just over 2 years/16k miles. I drive aggressive/spiritedly but do not track. I'll be checking costco for a decent set of summer tire.

Costco will have Michelin PS4S or maybe a BF Goodrich tire.
FYI. About a month ago I checked with them for a replacement set of PS4S for my car and in my 19" OEM staggered size Costco was sold out nation-wide. I couldn't order them on-line and my local Costco didn't have any in inventory in the right size. Not sure if that has improved recently.

Right now Indy 500s are $725 on Tire Rack and PS4S are $1070 (or $998 with rebate) for my car. $350 is not much more to pay for the best tire in its class. I don't drive many miles anymore so whatever tire I buy, I will be stuck with for several years. I've had the PSS and PS4S on my E82 and they were phenomenal. I see no reason to try to save a little dough.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unifor...uality_Grading It is a standard test. It is subject to some variation though but tires in the same range are generally comparable in terms of expected life and grip. You can generally expect a 200 TW tire to have more grip than a 300 TW tire. Within a single brand the number is quite accurate. Between brands it's ballpark.

If there's variation and it's left to be interpreted by the manufacturer, it is NOT standardized period. I'll leave this here for anyone else reading this or who will read this in the future. I've made my point and they can either believe the truth or your gibberish . This will be my last post on this subject. |

Argument over the standards put aside, I'll say that these are good tires. Sure the Michelin are better, but the difference in price is not negligible. It's over 30% higher for a set, which is money that can be used for other maintenance items, or, say 10 tanks of gas where I live. If money is no object, great. But if you want good performance and don't have unlimited budget, these tires will suit you well. my car is rwd and with dinan stage 2, pushing upwards of maybe 350hp? I have not broken grip once on dry pavement no matter how hard I push the car (on public roads of course). Point being, they do a good job for most people at a substantial discount to the Michelins. I've been meaning to get a look at how they are wearing since it's been a while, so I will post back my mileage and tread depth when I get a chance.

Are you running a 265 on a 8.5'' wheel?

So I have been running my FFI 500s for around 25k mi now. I am stock staggered 225f 255r on my xdrive 340. I can say for a DD these are probably the best bang for the buck. I go to the 1/8 track and these tires do phenomenally well. 0-60 2.91, and a 1/8 in 6.91. Imho they hook better than my older ps4s did. In the twisties these hold their own as well. I'd say just a small decrease in performance than the ps4s, but my suspension has been my limiting factor. Ride quality has been amazing. I'm considering swapping wheel setup to 513m's. If I do, I'm 90% gonna stick with the FFI 500.
