can't see radio display when wearing sunglasses

Has anyone else experienced this. When driving with the top down (which isn't going to happen now for 6 more months;-( with my sunglasses, which are polarized, the display is not readable?!

There's a thread here for fixing that with a polarized sheet over the radio. Do a search.

BMW Recall Notice

Some owners have stated that they cannot see the radio display under certain lighting conditions while wearing polarized sunglasses. We at BMW North America want you to know that we'll do whatever possible to help fix this issue. Starting immediately, simply come into any BMW dealer and tell them you are affected by this issue. They will either:
  • Replace your sunglasses with a pair of non-polarized ones
  • Remove your sunglasses from your possession
  • Remove the radio/idrive from your BMW for you

We feel this will remedy the situation very effectively, and with no cost to you.

If you're unsure whether or not this issue effects you, try driving while wearing your sunglasses, while simultaneously moving your head all about the cabin to see how the visibility is effected.

Sincerely,

BMW North America

I get this too. A better question might be whether anyone does NOT have a radio with the wrong polarization. Anyone?

I have the same issue with my 2011 128i Cabriolet. I stopped at the dealer today and the service techs in the back said they never heard of that. I demonstrated it to the sales guy and he is checking into it. Is there a BMW fix? or a self-fix?

We have same problem in aviation, with much worse results. The solution is to wear non polarized sunglasses.

There is a thread on the DIY section - using 3M overhead transparency film.
