BMW 340i xDrive 2016

I recently installed new tires and wheels. Apex Arc 8’s at 19x8.5 +35 offset.

My stocks were 400m wheels at 225/45/18s +35 offset.


New Tires are Michelin Pilot 4S at 235/40/19.

I thought it was a balance issue but after taking it back, the same mechanic told me I needed a hub centric ring or wheel spacers.

Before, on the stock 18s, the car would be planted on highway speeds. Now, it feels like they are gonna fall off. I’m really lost right now on what to do. Thought of calling APEX and emailing but no response.

He also told me the 4S’s themselves have some wheel hop.

I’m really unfamiliar with either of these and would be greatly appreciated if someone could guide me in the right direction.

you certainly do NOT need spacers nor do you need hubcentric rings since apex centerbore is 72.56mm which is the exact size for our cars.

where did you install the tires? imo, you need to have them re-mount the tires, yellow spot on tire lined up with valve stem, then re-balance.

the wheels look good on your car. when someone gives me bad basic advice then my confidence in that person is really shaken. know your consumer rights and be nice but firm

I had them installed at Next Level Automotive Service.

I’m actually planning on taking them to a different tire shop that offers road force balancing.

Assuming (hopefully), the balance is really the answer, I’ll be sure to tell them about it. Thanks for the help.

the yellow dot on the tire is the tires lightest spot. it is meant to be lined up with the tpms/valvestem, the heaviest part of the rim.

many places just mount the tire, wherever it "lands", and "throw" tire weights at it. most of the time this will be enough even though the yellow dot is not lined up, however the good places line up the yellow dot so the minimal amount of weight is required to balance.

there is always a possibility one rim slipped through an inspection and may be not as well balanced, however i think this is very remote, especially from Apex.

thanks for the reply. Feel like that’s what they did. My tires actually came in the late afternoon and the shop closes at 5.

The guy was working past shop close on my car so he was most likely speed running it.
I really feel it in the front, not the back.
