At this moment in time i have no clue what exact part of the system is failing but all i kno, is i have been having the rough idle and no power bellow 3000 rpm symptom for quite sometime...

N20 11:1 compression: Safety zone 17psi.
N20 10:1 compression: Safety zone 21.7psi. Anything above it, you are pushing it. Check your compression. There are cases when the sidewall of n20 which is using electric arc wire coating are damaged. |

What makes you say these numbers specifically are the safe zones? Even a little stage 1 tune puts you at 21. I think they're a bit higher than that.

on the 20i compression 11:1, stock boost is 0.8bar or 11.6psi.
for 28i compression 10:1, stock boost is 17psi. this is base on my experience of seeing n20 engine internal go kaboom. you can go higher, no one is stopping you. |

There’s way too many variables. Someone running e85 may be able to run more than someone running 93 or 91 octane. Someone in Utah, May be running more because of the elevation. Ie 24 psi in Utah may be like 17 psi at sea level.

long story to say, IMO with our motors, datalog often. 22psi on stock internals is the highest I would want. anything above is flirting with danger. when I was running JB4, I was running 22psi with a downpipe and stage 1. Stage 2 flirted with 24 and then overboosted twice which most likely caused me a motor. take caution. I'm running BM3 stage 1 now in the safe zone. its smooth as silk compared to JB4 and I don't have to worry about excess boost.

I ran jb4 on my 320i with a Downpipe and full exhaust and drop in flatbed filter. I had a custom map running 26psi which sometimes peaked at 30psi and I used 30-40% ethanol mix. The car can handle it as I used to run this map almost every week for about 4 months. I had the car running this boost from 80000km till 95000km with no issues.

Heres a few logs. i dont have logs for up to 30psi as these were once in a while over boosts. as you can see my boost limit was set to 32 (31.9) psi as at anything lower the jb4 kept switching to map4. The N20 is really strong and with my custom map, i beat a lot of fast cars even diesel cars with BT. On the TOP my car should hit limiter quick n fast lol My Map 7 on a dyno made 224wkw and 450nm. With my custom map 6 i never dyno it but am sure i made around 230wkw and around 490nm |
