BMW manufactures cars. They’re brand new. They sell those new cars to dealers.
Ergo, BMW only sells new cars. They’re not in business with buying and selling old cars. What confuses you?

Oh gotcha that makes sense then. I’ve bought 2 BMWs from my dealerships and they were used. Guess that only accounts then to the dealerships numbers not bmw. Thanks for clarifying

That’s it. Dealers are independent so when they have sales it’s their own numbers.
Some dealers are owned by groups and so they might have larger sales figures from that group.

But these are BMW NA sales figures.
Which is also confusing in itself, since”BMW of North America” is the name of the US operations… it doesn’t include Canada or Mexico lol
BMW Canada is its own entity.

Aside from gross units sold I’m not sure this is a good news story. Their high margin vehicles (X5-X7) all had major sales decreases.

I know there’s market/inflationary pressures in the US but that decline is pretty surprising. They might want to revisit their pricing strategy unless they’re confident interest rate decreases ahead of the next election will help drive sales in the next few quarters.

Odd not to see G80-G82 sales broken out either.

Earnings report will tell all. However early reports are that the majority of automakers did well last year.

Toyota and BMW customers are mostly different buyers. More overlap with Lexus but most still think Japanese brands are totally reliable and German brands aren’t. And the Lexus MMI is comically bad for such a premium brand.

Wonder how global sales were? Did BMW beat Mercedes? Tesla did almost 2M. I hope BMW can always stay ahead of them.

I'd be interested to know how MB and Audi did. Not too interested in Tesla but, like someone else said, many auto makers produced some good numbers and claimed they did well.

The XM sold more units than the Z4 and the iX outsold the 2 series. I guess enthusiast opinions aren’t everything…

Enthusiast opinions are worthless when it comes to debates on what is considered successful for an automaker and that's been proven here by BMW performing as good as ever despite the constant criticism you see on these forums. It just doesn't matter how many times posters say they are ugly, consumers just keep buying more and more of them. I am lukewarm on some of their current designs as I think they have taken the black plastic thing way too far but it appears this is what the average consumer likes so good for BMW that they don't build their vehicles to my personal tastes.

“Not that good looking”, but then you give Toyexus as examples…the most hideous SUVs ever, IMO. Whereas IMO, the X5 is beautiful! Pretty much always has been, but the LCI was hit out of the park. I give the compact SUV beauty nod to Audi, although X3 is pretty close 2nd for me.

BMW North America sales numbers are way higher than both Lexus and Audi. I expect they will crush Mercedes as well.
BMW is now the highest selling luxury auto manufacturer for the sixth consecutive year

Competing with the Lamborghini urus, in the first year lamborghini sold 1761 urus WORLDWIDE…. For the XM, 2315 was just US sales. If I remember correctly, US would have about 25% market share worldwide which means 9000-10000 XMs will be sold worldwide if these figures hold true and would mean that in its first year alone XM outsold urus worldwide even though they have been making urus since 2018.

It took Mercedes G wagon 10 years to sell more units per year than what BMW did for XM sales in the US in their first year.

Annual XM sales also would be higher than Porsche cayenne turbo GT, Aston martin DBX, Ferrari purosangue, Audi RSQ8, Maserati levante trofeo, etc etc.

One could also attribute the XM sales numbers in the US to consumers who have a desire for large, overweight, in your face styling.

And...do the math on this...2,315 XM's sold in the U.S. (and maybe includes Canada as well, not sure) multiplied by say an average of ~$200,000...can it really be $400m?? I'm thinking the margin on this particular 'suv' is probably pretty high

For somebody who cares this much about how other people spend their money, at least know the facts. The XM is not $200,000 in the US. The regular XM tops out around $160k. I'd imagine most of those units were sold at very steep discounts as well. BMWNA is shoving this model down dealers' throats and they are moving them with heavy discounts, in the $15-$20k off MSRP range is common now.

Yeah and? What's your issue? And why do you care so much about my OPINION?

And oh...sorry...$160k x 2315 units is still a shite load of $...

An observation my friend
