F31 Ride Quality

I've swapped my F11 on 18" rims with non RFTs to an F31 on 19" rims with RFTs and... the ride has improved! As odd as it sounds, the F31 handles pot-holes quite a bit better than the F11. The F11, despite its softer suspension setup, transmits road imperfections into the car far too easily (and I had VDC so on Comfort mode it was US sedan soft!). The F31 though really handles bumps well. It's overall taughter too, so the handling is way better.

The F31 chassis/suspension is a real high point of the car I think (and what ultimately made me change).

Noticed that you have an xdrive - so just imagine what it would be like with proper M Sport springs as opposed to the SE springs (I assume you have an M Sport?).

Also, what tyres have you got fitted?

I found this too, going from 18s non rft in my old E92 SE to the 19s RFT of the F31 the ride was still very good, good job or it wouldn't have got SWMBO's sign off!

It's a "Luxury" - so I guess SE springs. I'm generally not into the harder setup of M-Sport suspension, but I understand it's not an option on X-Drives anyhow?

I'm running Continental ContiSports (5 I think). They seem OK, but I know xdrives usually have P Zeros on them. I got the dealer to swap to the Contis since the wear on the P Zeros was more than I was happy with. The Contis seem plenty grippy, but I do notice some tyre roar at speed. Not sure if this is a general issue with the car, or a tyre-specific effect.

Personally I find the F30/1 suspension confusing. The vast majority of the time it is superb. Despite being firm, the ride quality is excellent and seems to smooth out bumps without losing that communicative element. The confusing thing is: just occasionally when it hits a pothole there is an almighty bang. Seriously alarming and disconcerting. What I don't understand is why it sometimes seems to make light work of potholes whereas occasionally it fails to do so.

I think certainly on M Sport models, they seem to fit either Bridgestone of Pirelli. Bridgestones do appear to be the worse RFT's (still!) unfortunately so I'm not surprised your Conti's feel quite good.
