Bmw Warranty Help?

ello lads, mainly for you 335i'ers but im sure others can help.

When i bought my car it came with an aftermarket warranty, i cant even remember the name but it doesnt matter because i know its not worth the paper its written on,

I would love to have the bmw warranty if i could, but i dont think the car would be eligable due to its service history ;

07 335i on 39k miles
Bmw service 12k
Bmw service 25k
Bmw specialist 32k

and thats it! the problem is i dont know what bmw require to be eligable, my service book tells me im on conditional based servicing, so service when the car tells you.

But do bmw want to see the car has been serviced EVERY year?

From speaking to the previous owner i know he used to do inbetween oil changes, i also have done that. I know that means nothing to bmw, and i defo wouldnt tell them anyway. but jus sayin

It would be great if anyone who has the warranty, or has had succesfull claims could compare there cars history to mine. and i can work out if its worth taking out the cover

They only need evidence of the car being service when it has asked for it, whether that be an independent or BMW dealership. So it doesn't matter where it has been serviced, only that it has been done. Best thing to do is to take your key into BMW and get a print out of the services it's had. Then make sure your stamps and/or receipts correlate.

In the past I've only needed to provide this 'proof' the first time I've made a warranty claim - the dealership I think photocopied the service book as there were some specialist stamps.

ah right thats not too bad then, somehwere down the line somebody has deided to keep the bmw invioces from the service book.

Ive rang the dealer that carried out the work down london, and for data protection reasons they cant give me a copy of the invoices. But the lady said that in the event of a claim. the BMW garage up north where i live, can confirm the work was done with them so i wouldnt need a copy of the paperwork invoice (book is stamped)

Does that sound right?

Sounds right to me.

During my claims I've never provided receipts, just the service book with BMW stamps from 3 different dealers (London x 2 and Hull). I guess they contacted each dealer to verify the authenticity.

My most recent service (small one, brake fluid change) was carried out by an indi. I called BMW Warranty first to check I could do this, they confirmed I could (and emailed me too so I have it in writting) as long as at any future claims I can provide a receipt from a VAT registered garage if it wasn't a BMW dealer. That's it.

Same one I have.
Wait a couple of months before you claim for your turbos... ;-)

It's a great service. I'm in with Cooper York now for a low boost / rattle fix.

Also, have they ever tried updating your software to try and cover up the rattle??

Yep. Courtesy car is a brand new £32k 320d ED X-Drive. All the toys. It's beautiful. Shame it's a derv. I hate the engine but the DCT gearbox and Interior are beautiful. A package not for me tho.

I walked into the service dept. and told them I had had an independent diagnosis carried out as I didn't want to wait 3 weeks (next appointment at my dealer) to find out.
They were cool about it and said they "had to run through their process". They then called me to say they had found a boost leak on the pressurised side. I called bullshit and told them straight that I had seen the issue with my own eyes. And what they should be looking for. I got a call 2 hours later saying " thanks for the direction, we have also diagnosed the same wastegate pivot bearing" and are currently stripping it out to change the turbos.
Nothing was ever mentioned about the software update. But I guess after talking to me they knew I was not going to settle for it.
Do you have low boost codes or just rattle.?

go you mate! its the way youve gotta be with them i suppose, but saying that from what ive read BMW are great at dealing witg these claims, well worth the money.

Mines just a rattle, its only present below 3000rpm when the engines freshly started in the morning and in "cold start mode" (so to speak). once the cars warmed a little and switched from cold start mode then the rattle is only present above 3000rpm.

Which is whats making me think my softwares been tinkered with. you cannot re-create the rattle at a stand still in neutral or park :s

That's going to be hard to recreate for the service tech. It's not their money when it's an insured warranty claim, so they are not shy to get done what needs doing. But they then have to justify the expense to the insurer (Mondial). If it's rattling, it's rattling. So you just have to let them do their thing and hope they agree. A good dealer and a friendly service dept. will be your saving grace. There is a backlash check they can perform to determine how much play you have in your pivot arm/bearing. A code will come eventually but you could be waiting a few more 1000 mls...

A JB4 will mask the rattle for a while (same as what BMW do with the update) but even that is only a temp fix. Once they have your key they will be able to tell you what's been done.

a friend of a friend works at our local BMW dealer, hopefully he will be able to make things run a little smoother when im getting the car looked at

Do you need to remove your JB4 before taking the car in for a warranty work?

Depends on what type of warranty work.
It's always recommended. But I never bothered as they don't need to go into the ecu compartment.
You can make it invisible to the obd port. So unless they go hunting for it, they won't find it.
Downpipes on the other hand are a different matter. And are a pain in the ass.

Having a friend that works at the dealer is always a bonus. Have a word with them and explain yr problem.
Try to remember though. Most of the time these service departments are servicing 320d's. They won't have an in depth understanding of how the 335i works. So you may have to do quite a bit of explaining.

haha trust me mate i wont be leaving them alone! Especially since it will 90% be the apprentice working on my car!

the car had 3 injectors replaced by an indy a few weeks ago and i was offshore while they were working on my car. i must have sent them over 20 emails making sure they "done this and done that properly"

They will have been sick to death of me hahaha
