Best 18" tires for E9x track day
I'm looking at a few tire options for my E90 when I take it to the track. I've read a lot of reviews on the Hankook R-S3's and because I want to be able to use these on the street too, I'm not sure if I should go with the Ventus Evo K110's. I know I've got a heavier car, so I want to make sure I don't spend 1K and regret it.

I use the rs3 for track only and they have been great. They wear well and don't get overly greasy after you heat them up. They hold up a lot better on the track then my PS2s ever did....and about half the price!

Does street driving for you mean "some street use on weekends and too and from events"? or does it mean "I will be daily driving and tracking on these"? Are you looking to mount the tires onto your stock wheels, or are you going to get a dedicated set of wheels for them that allow for wider tires? Tires and a set of dedicated track wheels can be more affordable then dual purpose tires when planned right. Tires like the RS-3 are very fast, and very cheap, but if you use them a lot away from the track, you'll wear them out quickly, which gets expensive fast. It's even worse with much more expensive tires like AD08's. If you have a dedicated set of wheels you can keep the aggressive track wear on your performance tires. Your stock wheels would continue to run tires that get much higher wear out of them. By never tracking on them You can pay for a set of dedicated wheels that allow for wider rubber by your 3rd or 4th set of replacement rubber. |

I've got a dedicated set of track rims (OEM M wheels), so I can put the 19's back on after the track. I was just interested to see if it was worth it to leave them on, since I like to make my occasional trips out of the garage as exciting as possible. I'm lucky enough not to call it my daily driver, though give me a reason and I'm taking it out.

My vote is Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 if you are using them for street and track.
The RE-11 are very quiet, relatively comfortable (for an extreme performance tire) and would be better in the wet than its competition. The AD-08 would likely be a slightly better dry track tire (based on various reports) but the RE-11 would be almost as good on a dry track but better in the wet and better for comfort. I just put the RE-11s on the car and they are really a great tire all around without sacrificing much anywhere. They are one of the best dual role tires out there IMO for people that run them daily but also want to go to the track once or twice a month. /thread... (j/k )

I agree... I bought them for the track days I get out to but was nervous about giving up daily comfort and wet grip (compared to the Pilot Super Sport). I was very pleasantly surprised with how good they are as a daily tire but the grip and steering response is much improved over the already great PSS. I would have liked to try the AD-08 but was warned by a couple of people that run them daily that their wet grip is not good and they are somewhat harsh over bumps. If I only wanted a dry track tire, they would likely be the way to go if I didn't care as much about comfort or wet grip.

Everyone recommends ad08, re-11, r-s3 for a street-able track tire.
What about the Toyo Proxies RA-1, aren't they along the lines of the other brands?

RA-1 is a R compound tire, the others are not.

So would you classify it with R6, R888, BF R1, and NT-01? Or is it somewhere in between, because the tread pattern looks much more tame compared to those?

I agree that the RE-11 do not have the wet grip of the PS2 and certainly the PSS. When I was saying they have good wet grip, I meant in comparison to the AD-08 and other extreme performance summer tires. I have found the RE-11 to be fine for wet grip under normal conditions but the PSS were definitely more confidence inspiring when being pushed.
