Running a squared setup over the factory staggered
I have a 2014 335i msport xdrive and from the factory it calls for 225/40/19 on the front and 255/35/19 on the rear. However, the front wheels are 8.0 wide and the rears are 8.5 wide. I have another set of BMW wheels I was going to run in the summer and they are all 8.5 wide and was wondering if I could run 255 squared instead of staggered but wasnt sure if it would damage my transmission in the long run. Any feedback is much appreciated.

The original 225/40 & 255/35 tires have just about the same diameter. Even though they’re different aspect ratios and widths. That’s why that staggered combo works with Xdrive. A square tire setup will obviously have the same exact tire diameters, so always good for Xdrive.
Besides a wheel’s diameter and width, it’s offset (measured as the mounting hub offset from the wheel width centerline) matters for fitment. So the question will be: are the offsets on your 19x8.5 wheels okay, with those size tires, to fit your F30 properly front and rear? Note that your current 8” front has a +36mm offset, and the 8.5” rears have a +47mm offset. |
