HELP! Can't open fuel door!
Before you flame me for not searching past threads, please read below!
As many E90 owners have experienced, my car will no longer lock/unlock except for the drivers door using the hidden key. After a changed fuse, the problem persists. Being just out of warranty, the dealership wanted me to pay to have this problem fixed. I spoke with BMWNA and within 24 hours had them confirm that they would fix this problem for free (goodwill repair). My SA has scheduled me in to have this fixed on Wednesday. As annoying as it is to make my passengers climb over the drivers seat to get in the car, I figured I could make due until the car gets fixed. I was wrong... Taking a girl out tonight, we stopped at a gas station to fill up before our movie. Just as you can guess, I was unable to open the fuel filler door. As anyone would do, I resorted to the manual for an answer. As instructed, I removed the panel in the trunk and looked for the pull-cord to manually release the door. Here's where the problem gets worse... That cord does not exist in my vehicle! I have felt around the entire cavity, reaching behind the insulation and all over the inner walls of the car, NOTHING! Is there something I am missing here? If I can't get this fixed until Wednesday, is there another solution? Your help is much appreciated! |

You have to remove the battery cover on the right corner of the trunk. thre is a small black knob on this removeable panel. twist it until it's loose and pull the panel away from the inside of the trunk. You'll see the a small green chord with a small handle near the top. hope this helps.

BUT, as I said, I have done this. I am inside the cavity containing the battery and there is NO cord. I've looked EVERYWHERE! |

Do you have an auto box and did you leave it in gear instead of in park? This would cause the fuel door on my old E36 not to unlock...when we were moving cross country, my wife was driving the bimmer and I had the rental truck...in the middle of nowhere someplace in the midwest, I get a frantic call from her on the cell -- CAN'T PUT IN GAS!!!
I arranged to meet her (about an hour behind because of the truck) then after thinking about it for a while, called her back and asked her to try it again with the gear in park. BINGO! Don't know if the newer ones do this, but it's something to check. |

hth could the car not be in park? That doesn't make any sense at all.

It's an AT. Who puts their car in NEUTRAL when they go to get gas?
Let's talk about some common sense.
