solution to our national debt?
so if you are under-weight you get a tax credit and/or refund? edit: tax credits/refund only redeemable at McDonalds, KFC, BurgerKing, etc.

You took me way to seriously. But yeah, it's like saying guns kill people or pencils fuck up your writing.. The human element is the factor that is flawed in most instances. |

It's not illegal in the Japanese example, but frowned upon because a company may face fines if its workforce is out of shape. Some friends and I have discussed this before. If you maintain a healthy weight and exercise regularly, you should be rewarded with cheaper health insurance. If you are overweight and choose not to exercise, your health is at a higher risk and therefore should be reflected in your health insurance. The same principle can be applied to those who choose to smoke.

There is a fine yes, but it is being imposed on employers not the individuals. It's not like the police are rounding up the fatties and tossing them in jail. Who knows, maybe they'll start ticketing individuals until they are within their regulation weight.

Even if you could get the support of everyone in principle, the administration of a fine on an individual basis would be extremely difficult to implement. Who defines "overweight"? And should it be different based on race (which under current law would be illegal)? Who defines sufficient dieting and exercise efforts? Should there be a medical exemption (for those that were genetically predisposed or who were, say, subject to extended bed rest due to a separate medical condition)? And who proves up that medical exemption? And who should pay the medical bill required to prove up that medical exemption? Just some of the issues off the top of my head that would need to be addressed ...

Maybe illegal in the US, but not in Japan. Different countries have different laws..."brah"

Look if Japan fines a person/company for a worker being fat...then that means there's a law that prohibits fatties...thus making it illegal by definition. Just because there isn't a jail sentence doesn't mean it's not illegal. |
