Drive them and make your choice.

Besides stating the obvious, I believe there are multiple reviews comparing these cars. Check Evo. They compare the FQ-400 with the 335i.

You're gonna get a lot of this (unless nobody feels like posting the same shit again):
-The evo is a pos cheap car built for performance
-Lol @ mitsu
-Ricer
-*Insert forum fanboy shit*

Do you have a 4 door requirement? If not I don't think they compare very well. The 3 is way more refined and luxurious. The evo is raw and - let's say - inexpensive, but faster. Put it this way, do you wear a t-shirt or a tie?

Cost wise, they're in single digit thousands of each other.
(If you're like me... I only got sport package)

A 135 is 10 seconds slower around a 2.7 mile track than an evo X (so the 335 should be slightly slower still).

Full bolt-ons, evo X runs a 1/4 mile in the 10s.

I wouldn't bother with an FQ400... A stock evo X + tune will be way more powerful and way less expensive.
So much cheaper that even if you break an engine, you can replace it a few times over before you even break even.

Just pick up a used one for cheaper and tune it. Then enjoy it without having to worry about lost value, etc.

IMHO the 3 series looks nice, and at the time I bought mine I just "had enough of my evo". Looking back, I would have kept the evo.
(Evo was just more reliable, more fun... the 'bmw looks good' appeal wears off, and you're left with 'how does it drive?'... You can't compare the driving experience of an evo to a BMW... one car is comfortable, the other is serious.)

TBH, I'd pick up a used 9 over the IX anyways. Lighter, tougher, tunes easier, way more room to grow. Really cheap to make stupid fast.

I personally think the Evo 9 was much better than the Evo X is. Having said that, I'm not big into needing speed in cars (I have a motorcycle for that) and I a nice interior is something I want, so I'd go BMW personally. It's quick still, but overall much much better built than the Mitsu.

I'd rather have an Evo 9 than X for beastly power, but refinement and interior quality definitely go to the Evo X. A white or red one would be sweet!

I'd go with an Evo X. Mahle forged pistons from the factory, Active Yaw Control, Brembo brakes, etc all for $35ish = WIN. My buddy over at HB Speed gets 320whp out of Evo X's with just a tune and a Cosworth drop-in filter .

I have both. I preffer the E92 in EVERY way for the streets and around town. But get the X on a track and its an incredible car. And my E92 has every mod available in suspention, brakes, LSD and power. The X has a tune, intake, exhaust and coilovers.

I have never seen or heard of an evo X with a few bolt-ons even come close to 10 sec 1/25 mile. The car is heavier than the older evo's and much slower. In a straight line the 135i is quicker than a evo x but I'm not sure how the 335i compares but I would say about the same. Go to evolutionm and see the numbers on the x with a few bolt-ons. I would go with a 335i because of all the obvious reasons stated above plus it holds its value much better. You may pay more initially but you won't lose as much in the end.

Carrito's evo did 10s with stock internals. (Hence bolt-ons)

IIRC:
Turbo had a ported housing
New fuel pump
I believe injectors were still stock
Full intake/exhaust

^ agreed with this

The only thing is i would get an evo 9 over a 10.

Go for the 335i.

I feel it's a much better overall car, which has incredible performance & refinement.
