mice chewed OIL LEVELLING SENSOR cable
Wrng.harness,motor,sensorsystem,module
Part Number: 12518631656 OIL LEVELLING SENSOR Part Number: 12618638755 Part Number: 12518631656 is a whole harness that connects to alot of other modules, the damage is only on the end connecting to Part Number: 12618638755; the darn thing chewed through the wire. I'm thinking I only need to splice and reconnect the two wires, any thoughts? I did take a look while tech had car on lift and it wasn't a clean 'cut', does look like something chewed on it, the wire cover had a U shape missing on it... came back from two weeks of vac. and notice car message said oil life is 600 miles left. Went in for routine 1 year oil change, tech found it and the oil life indicator won't reset, message still said I have 600 miles left on my oil-after change. The car is still driveable. |

I had exact same symptoms as you. Miles left dropped from 5000 to 600 which I think is default if sensor is not working. Dealer told me that they got couple of such cases every month.

This is interesting. Is there some sort of cable shielding option, for example flexible metal mesh which some rubber hoses have (not necessarily BMW rubber hoses)?

Mice can also total a car if they chew through something that's part of the wiring harness - that is a massive job to replace.

Apparently mice HATE the smell of Bounce sheets so if you leave an open box in the trunk of your car they will stay away. I've got a box in both of my cars that are stored for the winter.

tried dryer sheets. doesn't work. peppermint oil has worked so far. repaired the engine harness in my Dodge ram about 4 times now... one time was a HUGE pita. they chewed every plug wire, distributor timing sensor, etc. etc.

The wire was shielded in the ribbed black plastic you commonly see, no match for the mice though. It chewed through the copper wire, completely separated. |

I have never seen a mice around my house. Even I put a trap for couple of weeks but didn't see anything. Still I was hit twice within 3 months due to this harness chewing issue. I even have warranty but dealer won't use it.
I didn't see the cut the first time but second time when I saw it, it was clean cut through the tape. Hard to believe it was mice but I have no other answer. Don't understand why mice would attack the same part of the cable.

the first mice probably left some scent in your case (or just the same mice?!), and the plastic shielding's probably got some dino-juice-scent=food in it (after all plastics are made with oil). That's my half educated guess! The plastic shield actually is missing a chunk, so something actually ate it. Not the first time in general, I've seen electrical wires and plastic things that mice (or something) chewed on. |

I know I'm late to the party. Google search tells me this is the most relevant post about this topic. And I see no one gave this man help on how to fix this issue. I too have this strange cut in my wiring harness near the base of my oil level sensor. Besides telling me any more about mice, has anyone spliced this? If so, can you direct me to the correct wires? Thanks

I have encountered this experience and spliced the wires. I don't know what you're here for but whatever it is it won't matter to me, blocked you are.

I’ve had this same issue and looked everywhere for a pigtail replacement, unfortunately I haven’t had any luck, only place I found this and just put an order for it is on the Ali express app, a china product but seems like it will fit, once I get it I’ll see if it fits and report back.
