Can anyone with access pull and post SIB B01 03 16 ? That would be the best way to determine what's covered here.

The picture in the OP's original post clearly states it's the Idle Air Controller.

You're dreaming if you think BMW would warranty the Throttle actuators for 10 years!

Curious, if the vehicle is under BMW factory warranty or extended warranty, are the throttle actuator replacements covered under said warranty? Or does BMW say that is a wear and tear item?

I asked my SA if they are covered under CPO, which mine just kicked in, and he said yes. So I would imagine any other warranty would cover them unless it specifically says it does not.

I had both replaced under my third-party extended warranty...

Yeah, why doesn't the "crowd" understand they need to pay full price on faulty designed parts over and over again...

To add some more pertinent info to this thread. A technical service advisor for BMW CCA (charlson89) posted here that he read the applicable BMW bulletin SIB 01-03-16 and it states two important things:

1. It "is an extended warranty for idle air controller not a throttle actuator (two different parts evens though it says actuator)."

2. "it is only for production dates 6/30/2012 to 6/27/13."

Revival of this thread. If I have a car in that production timeline that I bought used can I take it to my local dealer and have the idle air controller replaced. Also, with regard to the throttle actuators, is there a typical mileage range in the vehicle these begin to fail at. I have a 2013 e92 with 36k on it right now.

You don't need to be the original owner. The extended warranty on this part applies to the vehicle, but to have the part replaced at the dealer, it needs to be malfunctioning. It's not like the airbag or battery cable recalls where all of the units are replaced regardless of their condition.

Weird that this only applies to cars built during that specific one year period. Did BMW get a particularly shitty batch of idle air controllers during that time ? >.<
