Coding of ASD is very easy.
It's only VO Coding.
You only have to activate your VO, choose the ASD in Esys and push the button "code".
Then the ASD will be written with your VIN.
The ASD is listed in the ECUs now, but the "code" button in the coding interface is greyed out, am I missing something? It's available for all other ECUs, not this one.

OK I managed to put a CAF file using the "Detect CAF for SWE" command.

The remaining issues I have:
- Most annoying: sound shuts down completely when my ActiveHybrid goes to electric drive, or when the engine is shut down at stop. Very strange.
- Maybe related: when I try to change settings, they seem to revert to some default values, which are not completely incorrect but annoying.

Installation :
- KCAN2 signal comes from the trunk COMBOX wiring, I tapped the signal there
- Power comes from the POWER/GROUND cables of the Hifi harness and I see a 12V signal there even with engine down.
- Other wiring is audio signal which is working fine when the engine is running.

Then I chose one of the propositions, without being sure which is right:

I tried to FDL code this way:

But when coding and reloading it forces me back to other values

I'd stay off of page 1 of this thread. I'm getting malware warnings / blocking occurring from it. (this one is fine)

Does anyone know how this works with a Tophifi (H&K) sound system?

There is no audio coming out of the head unit with my amp. Its sent via MOST to the AMP which spits out the full L7.

On page 4 of this thread I have inserted a graphic where you can see it. It is easier with hk, because you have to wire less cables.

In my view a M2 Pure sounds like two people farting through tin cans. So, I can see why owners want to have a sweeter sound inside the car.

Why would anyone want to fool themselves? Is self inflicted ignorance still bliss?

Sound cuts when stop/start cuts engine

Hi Lancelot did you ever get to the issue of the sound cutting out when the engine stops? I have a similar issue with the base speakers, in that when the auto stop/start cuts my engine, all the sound cuts out on my car? I'm not sure if this is a coding issue or not, I wonder if anyone has any advice on this?

Thanks

Tony

Hi

Yes you need to wire the RAD_ON pin to a 12V source (or to the proper wire from the head unit preferably), so i don't this issue anymore.

But i never got the ASD to produce any sound though.

Found a vendor who can provide a PnP wiring harness for the ASD, but only for NBT equipped vehicles. He's located in Korea and is charging about $230 USD for the harness. Unfortunately, I have the CIC. But if the ASD is suppose to connect to the line before the Hi-Fi amp and then to the speakers, does it matter which head unit I have? I assume he knows what he's talking about- since he specifically mentions he only has the harness for the NBT.

The used ASD amp that I purchased has the wiring harness cut off on one end. Do I just match the diagram and splice into the wiring going into the Hi-FI amp?

The wiring for NBT and CIC seems to be near the same.
The only difference i found is the fuse F159 instead of F126.

Thanks for the info. I will be in Korea next week. Maybe I can show this to him and he can reassign the pin for the fuse so I can connect it when I return home.

Vitchie, I was able to purchase an ASD amp with the harness with one end cut off from the main wiring harness. So do I just need to match the colors and tap into the wiring harness feeding into the Hi-Fi amp in the trunk?

Currently trying to get it working on my 2012 F30 which has Top Hifi. Just something to note...I had to buy a 2014 or newer amp, identical except it has 8 additional pins to attach the ASD module to it

Will keep you updated

Finally got it working.

Single most important thing to note:

Any car with HK audio, which did NOT come with ASD, will also need a new HK amp which supports ASD.

**The cars with ASD have a different HK amp than the cars without ASD**

You will need to buy a new amp with the extra pins on the connector.

The NON-ASD HK amp has a connector like this:

The ASD amp has a connector like this:

The ASD connector for the upgraded amp can be found on ebay and other online sources, part number 1355795. But be prepared to buy a new amp if you have HK audio and want to retrofit ASD

I totally get it though. A few years back when I read that Porsche was adding this to their cars, my 'knee jerk' reaction was how stupid that sounded.

But now, in my F30 N20 328i, I realize that my car is 'fun'. I have so much fun driving this car, and giving me the sound of an M4 inside my car would be so much fun for me! It doesn't make my car go faster. It's not there to impress anyone driving around me. It's there for me to have fun.

I think what I don't like about it is that when you hold a low gear it sounds way too loud and fake.

Found a seller on Taobao that seems to have the wiring harness for the ASD to the amp. Wondering if the harness will support the power and connect to the KCAN line to get our car to recognize the ASD amp and have sufficient power to drive both amps in the trunk.

Here is the link:

https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm...ucket=3#detail

The seller wrote back- had a friend translate- he has both harnesses for the Hi-fi amp and the Harmon Kardon amp.

received the wiring harness but the connectors don't match

So I received the ASD wiring harness and one end plugs into the ASD amp but the other two that plugs into the Hi-Fi amp and the line from the vehicle don't match. I specifically mentioned that I had the Hi-Fi Amp.

Doesn't look like the harness is for the Harmon Kardon amp either. Does anyone know if they sent the harness for a different model type? Here are the pics.

Why did you get a new part ? Isnt it already built into the car or did you get a m3/m4 part ?
