I got a friend coming down from the states tomorrow and can purchase me a crimp tool if someone knows where to get the exact one that is shown here. Ive tried finding it but the dies are all a bit different than this.

This is indeed the wrong order. I did this order and car was in limp mode. The correct order is what the OP stated. It it Orange - black/blue - yellow . If you guys already did it in this order get a small hair Bobby pin lift the tab up and use the Bobby hair pin and push the silver connector down. Then switch it.

Edit: while you are repairing this. Buy new vanos solenoids while you are it. Knock 2 birds with 1 stone.

Edit 2: you will know if the 2 wires (orange and yellow) are on the wrong side if the car long cranks and doesn't start and when it does it goes straight to limp mode.

Good luck to anyone reading this hope this helps in 2017!

Just completed Identical problem. Had to Build my own plug to the CPS. The posts here greatly helped me. Thank you. I will say, if you order a Plug from Amazon that it does not come with the Wire Crimp ends it only comes as a plastic piece. You have to have those wire ends in to go back inside the new plastic housing. Otherwise it starts to get a little redneck to get your Bimmer running. But luckily for me, there is plenty of red to go around my house. Running better than it has since I have owned the car. Thanks for the posts.

Old thread, however, the plug for my crankshaft position sensor (by the starter motor) in my '06 330i essentially broke apart in my hand...

So I ordered a new plug, prongs, and rubber grommets and rebuilt it...and now I am stuck with not really knowing the proper order of the three wires. The black/blue in the middle is easy. The order of the yellow and orange wires is frustrating.

Does anyone know for sure (perhaps with a pick, drawing or detailed description) the proper order of the CPS wires?

Thank you guys for being fudgin awesome! This post really helped me tonight at 2am working right next to a lake and smothered in off. Lol. Oh yeah, and live in Florida. The darn critters are doing air raid missions on me while typing this. Anyway, same issue here but I'm broker than a crackhead on payday do I'm ninja rigging it. Hopefully it works so I guess we shall see. This is my first post, thanks again.

2017? Helped me in 2022 with my '06. Found her with only 100k miles and now she runs like the day she rolled off the lot.

You've been a substantial help my friend.
