Someone did this to my car

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Keyed it.... about 8" to 9" wide at the longest scratch.

body shop estimate - $500 to repaint
car wash guy said it won't be gone by just buffing.

Is there a cheaper option to fix this (color - AW)?

worst case .. will have to see if comprehensive insurance covers this kind of damage and pay the deductible...

That's seriously one of the lamest things someone can do. I mean, what do they think they are accomplishing.

There are a lot of really brain dead idiots out there. But what can you do? Bad luck.

I would think that as it is an act of vandalism your comprehensive will cover it. You will need to get the panel repainted. Make sure you get a top body shop so that the paint is perfect. Accept nothing less.

Your comprehensive will cover a full proper repaint at a reduced deductible (usually only $100-200.) Your premium should not go up due to vandalism either. Definitely give your insurance a call and get this fixed properly or you'll regret it later on.

I really wish I could catch the person who did this, but unfortunately that's impossible. I'm just wondering if it happens again after I get it fixed...... trying to research if it is possible to install hidden cameras in cars for this purpose...even if it costs me more than the amount I can recover from that b@st@rd...it will be worth it....

Your comprehensive deductible is typically quite a bit less than your collision deductible. Check your policy documents or give Geico a call.

Many cars in Russia have dashboard cams...just YouTube Russian car crashes...quite entertaining actually. Not so entertaining what happened to your car. If it was some random jack off that's one thing, but if it was someone with a grudge...I would garage it or make sure you make the cameras visible but inaccessible...should be enough of a deterrent. Or just hide in the bushes with a Louisville!!

just filed a claim with insurance.... will have to pay my comprehensive deductible (obviously). But the rest insurance will cover. Since this is a no fault comprehensive claim my premiums will not go up (as per the agent).

I will have to re-opticoat

So sorry about this bud. What assholes.

Now in real life (not forum talk), what would you do if you actually caught them in the act? Call the cops? Beat them to a bloody pulp? You never know what a disturbed and disgruntled person like this may do in retaliation, especially if they know where you live/park your car. I honestly don't know how i would react, but my guess is i would either watch from a distance and pretend it never happened, or at most just maybe yell at them and give them a good scare. Not sure what attacking them or calling them out may bring about. I would just shrug it off as a BMW tax. People seriously hate BMW drivers.

Not sure about this (but maybe), possibly some kids or jealous un-hinged adult (you never know).

My sister had the door in her Peugeot 205 pulled down to 90 degrees (so the glass broke), nothing stolen just done because it was a very old car and they could.

In some university towns you some times see drunk students run across cars leaving £1000 of damage.

Unfortunately the world is full of people with no consideration for others, you just got to except it. When caught you should be allowed to damage something they love and have work hard to earn / own.

If this happened outside your house i would install an external camera. If it was in a public place you could look around for some shops etc. for cameras and go and ask for the video. is would be a good option in the UK as we have more cameras than people

I hope you get it all fixed.

WOW...thats some BS...definitely hit insurance! I had some anti obama stickers on my last x5 and some jerk off keyed me. I just told Ins. it was vandalism and it was no deductible for me.

Sucks man. Do you know when and where it happened? Shopping mall by any chance? I avoid going to malls during the holidays because it brings out the worst in people. Everyone is stressed due to spending and time pressure that the littlest thing will piss them off. Hope you didn't cut someone off or be d!ck in taking their spot in the parking lot. Holiday shoppers, who are less fortunate, can get very aggressive or irrational. When I was young and living in NYC, when my parents hit the malls during the holidays, we encountered drivers who threatened to come back and scratch our car because they felt we took their spot even though my dad had the right of way. We've even had two guys step out of the car an threatened my dad until they saw both my brother and I in the car. Avoid the holiday rush and crowded events if you value your car. If you have to go, don't be the stereotypical BMW driver that everyone hates.

I may live in LA, but I'm from the south. I have a Sig Sauer .40, I sleep near, to answer to for anyone who I catch attempting or vandalizing my car. As far as I'm concerned if they are threatening my car they are attempting harm to me. Just sayin'

Anytime I hear anything outside that even remotely sounds like its near my car, I'm at the window. Trust.
