Road Noise - Continental Extreme Contact DW vs. Pilot Super Sports

HEy everyone.. I just wanted to know if anyone has ridden on both, and noticed a difference in road noise between the two.. Thanks!

According to a recent summer tire comparison test in Car & Driver (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=712130), both tires generate about the same amount of noise.

I would agree with Car and Driver's take on this. Both are pretty quiet tires and similar to each other in regards to noise.

Bumping this old post as I went to get my car serviced today thinking there were bearing issues or something wrong with the hub or wheel due to the massive amount of road noise. The conclusion was that it's pure road noise from the tires.

I have Continental DW tires that have only 5K miles on them and they are overpoweringly loud. I'll never buy these again!!

Continental dw is more smooth and less road noice, but pss will corner a bit better. I had them both on my e39. And when i got the 335 first thing i got was dw tires and love them .

how long did the quiet ride last? I'm shocked how loud they are with very little wear. Overpowers the stereo.

Funny you posted this today because I mentioned the same in one of the other Conti DW threads. My DW have gotten ridiculously loud after 30k km or so, that constant howling is driving me nuts. They were really quiet when new but its the opposite now. I'm considering the PSS next too. I'd like to hear from current owners about road noise after some extended mileage.

I also started to get noise problem on my continental extreme contact dw. I bought them last summer and drove 10k km.

The wear noise come front the external tire side...when touching them, you can feel the bump as they don't wear normaly.

This makes me sad. I still have runflats on mine and the road noise is overbearing. I have the BMWPE and I can't even hear myself think in my car, let alone the noise of the exhaust.

I want new tires but now I don't know what to get if the road noise is that bad on both.

I've had both...and recently (just replaced the Conti's with PSS 7 months/12k miles ago). Although I liked the Contis...until the inner sidewalls split on both rear tires - near disaster! Google that.)...the Michelin PSS is quieter and smoother. They require less weight to balance and they are wearing well. The best tires I've ever owned.

Only had PSS for 1500 Km's with 1000 being Highway/Freeway high speeds.
225/45/18F/255/40/18R - Replaced my Original Square 225/50/17's RFT's.
Quieter, Smoother, Best tires I've owned - Couldn't Agree More.

I've had DW and PSS (and S-04) .

DW started out smooth, quiet and mushy. They firmed up but they got rougher and louder.

PSS are nice and quiet, even after 17K miles. The ride is what I would call "active" but it's worth it to get that great responsiveness. Love these tires.

Also depends on width. When I had 19s 265 PSS it sounded like a jeep driving down the road. Great grip but they were loud. Just ordered conti ext dw for my 17s. I'll see how loud those are.

I will try to fix this issue by doing a side to side rotation. Anybody tried this before?

I'm on my second set of super sports and I find they are louder for the first 1000km or so and get quieter after.
