Non RFT to Replace stock RFT?
I have the stock 18" sport rims on my 20111 335 coupe and it's time for me to change my tires. I have 225/240 in the front and 255/235 in the back. It is outrageously expensive to change the RFT on my car the guy quoted me about 1600 dollars with install. I asked him if we could put non RFT on it and he said he didn't recommend it due to the fact that "all the driving performance from the factory goes right out the window" is this true? I hear that running non RFT will be much much more comfortable, yet I don't want the car to drive completely different. Is it a good idea to go ahead and get non RFT on my car, and if so could you guys recommend some good ones tires? Thanks.

I would not say that all driving performance goes out the window, as there are many high performance tires out there that are not run flats. Many people on the forums here as well have made the switch without any issues. If you're looking to save a bit of money, it is not a bad route to take. Some people report that driving does feel a bit different though since the sidewalls aren't quite as stiff on most non-RFTs.
+1 Great tires!

michelin pilot super sports are a great tire, infact, they are used as standard OEM tires on many M3s from the dealership. Many forum members have also switched away from the runflats to the PSS. So I wouldnt worry about driving performance going "out the window".
Although you should keep in mind that when giving up runflats, you are giving up their safety feature should you happen to get a puncture so you should think about keeping a tire repair kit or a spare in your trunk. |

^ Wise idea above with the tire repair kit. As for non runflats, I too looked into that decision. I figure as long as you have some kind of roadside assistance and insurance, runflats are not that important. Your ride will be a heck of alot smoother without the runflats and though I don't have a "tripp'd out" e90, I don't notice much of a difference in performance around corners etc.

performance won[t go away. Many people like the feel of the stiff sidewall, so perhaps that's what your installer is thinking of.
If you go from rft to non-rft, you will likely lose at least 3 lbs of unsprung weight per wheel, maybe more depending on what brand. That might help your performance. |

Steering response feel faster with run flat tires (generally speaking) but a top non run flat summer tire like the Michelin Pilot Super Sport will have better dry and wet grip and better cornering grip than any of the current run flat offerings in the market.
