Brakes

Hi just a quick one, need discs and pads changing all round and the garage told me I can't buy aftermarket because he's heard that the discs warp and he tells me I have to fit parts from bmw? Has anyone had any issues with the likes of pagid etc? Cheers

ATE are OE manufacturer of the discs, Jurid/Pagid/Textar for the pads. No need to go to BMW but it's always worth getting a price, I've just replaced mine all round and they were about £80 more for the lot from the dealer

To be fair I think a lot of garages now go with OEM supplied parts as aftermarket can be so variable in quality and availability. And if a part fails or provides substandard performance within the usual 3 month warranty that garages offer then it costs more to the garage to save the customer some money.

Case in point is the pair of Zimmerman 2 piece rotors I've got on the front which are definitely not lasting particularly well given they've only done 10k miles. Yes, they've been driven hard, but the wear rates suggest they're not the highest spec iron. People do forget that while the manufacturer may be OEM rated, there are many instances where the materials are not as highly spec'd as the OEM graded parts they also make. Of course there are many instances where the parts are identical, it's the difficulty in identifying which is which that makes some places only go with true OEM stuff.

Pagid are my go to brake parts, never had any issues with them n a variety of vehicles including the BMW.
As others have said there is a huge variety in quality and materials used but most brand names are good and manufactured under TMD Friction Group. Just avoid the cheap brake parts off eBay with no name and silly low prices.
