Is this a good deal?
Hi All,
I am new to this forum and I am planning to buy a 420d m sport. I was thinking of buying an approved used 2016 model but the price difference between the new and approved model is not too much and 10% APR on approved used is way too much. I am thinking of going for the Xdrive with M plus pack, advance parking pack. Not sure if there is any other extras I should add. Any recommendations? I have spoken to a dealerships and following are the pcp deal details I have received from one of the dealerships: On the road Price £34036.25 Annual Mileage 10k Deposit £5000 47 Monthly Payments £355.00 GFV £14,948.70 APR 2.9% It is the first time I am planning to buy a new car and would like some advice on the numbers above. If anyone on the forum has purchased a similar model and can give me some advice on the deal please? I am thinking of keeping the car at the end of the 47 months term by paying off the baloon as i really dont like the idea of paying £21,685 to rent a car for 4 years and returning it back |

Hi,
Best place to start is the following: http://www.coast2coastcars.co.uk/ run through and see what you can get, then go back to the dealer and ask for them to beat it. A very quick look C2C are showing BMW 4 SERIES COUPE 420d [190] xDrive 2 door M Sport Coupe ON THE ROAD PRICE £31,054 SAVING YOU £5,941 IMO unless you live in Scotland xDrive is pointless and makes the handling worse - save the money and get some winter tryes which in winter conditions will be far better / safer then xDrive BMW 4 SERIES COUPE 420d [190] 2 door M Sport Coupe ON THE ROAD PRICE £29,984 SAVING YOU £5,511 plus mpg will be worse with xDrive due to drive-train losses

Not great imo. You should really consider a 430d or 435d, much better engines and extra standard equipment, plus because they have better discounts and better residuals means they could cost the same as the 420d!

The deal if that's the first one you have got, get some more. Go on C2C get a quote and sit down with a dealer and thrash the numbers. Your post kind of indicates you have had internet/email contact but not face to face. You and they need to see the whites of each other's eyes, so sit down and go through the numbers. Don't be shy to walk away if the numbers don't feel right there's loads of deals out there, be robust. Extras wise, unless you live in remote areas, xdrive will be a waste. You get lower MPG, sloppy SE suspension handling and a high ride height which looks out of place on a great looking coupe like the 4. It will also save you approx 1500 notes if you don't spec it. Now do you need a diesel? my 320d was a nice car with a dog of an engine, I am aware that the latest have a more refined motor, but not by much. If you do less than 15k a year, go petrol. It will save you money on purchase and be a much nicer experience in a coupe. They do 320, 330, 340 so lots to match budgets. Plus if you plan on keeping for many years, the clock is ticking on diesel tax etc and as a long term owner you could get caught out as depreciation escalates with pressure from tax/legislation. Other extras. Not a fan of Pro Nav. Nice screen but poor navigation. Save the cash and don't get conned by sales who say it's needed for resale. M Sport plus pack is good value and the 19" wheels look good on the coupe, go for it. Heated wheel, great must have and good value. Rear camera, so useful. Go for an interior other than black, BM's can be a bit dull looking in dark colours and the 4 is a great looking car that really deserves a smart interior. Wish I had gone for individual leather and dash. It looks so good and really ups the interior quality, but is expensive. I would def the Pro Nav and go for it next time. Hope this helps and not confuses, enjoy the buying experience and don't be shy when negotiating, the bottom line is way lower than you think and they need to sell. |

Interesting that Mr Burt says not to go for Pro Nav. I'll just say that it's an absolute essential for me with any BMW that I buy, and a salesperson who I know reckons it's one of the most critical things that private buyers insist on, if he's looking across group stock.

I joined to day to ask a bout a how you guys finance your cars, I cant post a new thread so I will jump on here if you don't mind.
Evening fellas, Wondering if you can offer some help and advice, currently running a m135 and Audi Quattro but we are now in a position to drop to one car. So with that in mind 335D Xdrive is just the job. We have driven one and like the car and it suits all our needs. Our problem is we cant get a suitable deal, with or without BMW subsidies, extra this, GAP, paint treatments PCP, Select, pay outright. Im at the point of walking away from this as it is actually keeping me awake at night! We are in the middle of a house sale and about to start building a house so im about at max brain resource…… Car in question is a brand new but pre reg’d so its a lot cheaper ( 10k) but this removes a lot of BMW financial help. So PCP do you guys use it ? small deposit ? just cant get head round the high monthly payments and the 10.9% ! Buying outright seems no longer the way ? Is this the norm, I’ve always just bought my cars outright, done. No limit on miles or this or that, its mime! Would really be grateful of some input here, as I say its driving me crackers and frankly you cant believe a word that come out of a salesman’s mouth. Many thanks, FLY |

Using a Coast2Coast quote as Xplosiv166 says above, you should be getting £5.5k discount With your £5k deposit, you should be looking at a monthly of £229 or if you put in just £1000, then you would pay £319. Shop around - plenty of good deals to be had

I'd suggest you go for a bigger engine like 440i or 430i at least as you will probably regret with the power of 20i. Don't get me wrong it is not a slow car by no means when using it around town but when you take the car abroad you will realise it's sluggishness among other cars on motorway/autobahn. Not safe to overtake other cars as well when going after 60 or 70 mph. If I had to buy another BMW that would be LCI 4 Series with 3 liter engine. Pro Nav, HK, HUD, Adaptive LED and rear seat folding are essential.

Nil deposit 539/month 15k pa / 4years Msport+ \ adaptive suspension This could be better but I have negative equity in my car, I am paying 2.4k, dealer covers balance. Range is up to 6k depending on which dealer you talk too I reckon you could get less than 500 a month, with no deposit, I am sure I have a quote somewhere. your at 455 now with your deposit included in the monthlies

Lots of great advice here, including considering petrol if you are not going to be doing many miles. But my personal PoV is swerve the 420i, or at least test drive it. I'm just coming out of 320i and it feels very underpowered. If you genuinely can't get a good deal on a 430i or 430d, go with the 420d not 420i.

I had dealers look at a 335d as well as the 435dGC, the 335d was dearer due to Apr being higher, 2.9% on 4's at the moment

I would consider test driving 430d to compare although there nothing wrong the 420d from my experience it's a great all rounder if you planning on playing it safe.
Is would ask for more discount especially now there more generous with it and currently run 2.5 % APR offering. I'm paying fairly similar to what you been quoted but I ordered my car Jan 15. |
