Hi

My Traction Control Light on Showed up today and it slowed the vehicle.I switched it off and drove. .During Regular Service they mentioned my Rear Brake Pads are 4MM and Recommend performing rear brake service with Rotor Replacement.Rotors have excessive Rust on Inner Side Causing poor Pad contact.

Gave me a Quote of $859


Is it the reason for this Light on? Please suggest.

I don't know if that's the cause for the error (doubt it) but that's not terrible of a price for brakes. And you should get those fixed if they are at 4mm.

That was what happened to me (many years ago) when the ABS sensor needed replacing. I don't know if it still works this way nowadays (I haven't had ABS sensors problems with my recent cars). After you've had your brake work done, if the light is still on, then look into this possibility.

I think I had the same issue as I recall with my old e46. In my case the computer controlling that process went bad. It was an expensive fix, if we are talking the same thing. Good luck.

Get a second opinion. A ridge of rust on the outer edge of rotors is normal, and is easily removed. It takes a lot more than that to require replacing rotors. It shouldn't have anything to do with traction control. You may have even turned the light on inadvertently.

If you turned the traction control light on, I don't think that would slow the car down as the OP reported.

Traction control uses the brakes to correct yaw. It could be related, although I would think the brake warning would go off first.

OP: Traction control will also cut power along with apply brakes to wheels that have lost traction, but that loss should go away as soon as your car regains composure. Was it a permanent power loss, or momentary? The traction control light that went on, was it a WARNING light or a light that says you turned if on/off?
