Thanks Ed, she sounded beautiful as well. I could hear her coming through the glen, on a rising gradient, and the sound was really echoing off the mountains.

Before going back to Morar, where we are staying for the week, to get my shot of The Jacobite, I called in at the previous station on the line, Arisaig.
The station had recently been painted and looked in great condition, especially considering it has been in daily use since 1901.

Great train Alan!

I was walking around the marina in Portland, ME while my wife was going for a run. Turns out they have a huge network of running/biking trails that are part of an initiative called Rails to Trails which turns all unused rail track into recreational trails.

Looked like these have been sitting there for a little while.

Great pics, Alan. Love the train shot. Flawless processing on both images. Well done.

A 9-image stitch.

I made it a little wider than the screen so that you can see details.

Thanks Mark and Joe.
It's good to see old railway track beds being put to good use, would be even better if old trains were still running on them

Thanks for the processing comment Mark, I'm never too sure when using this laptop away from home.

Dave, your Florence pano is an absolute classic. I've looked on flickr too.
Amazing level of detail and flawless stitching.

Wow, did you downsize the individual files before stitching? I couldn't imagine the processing power to stitch 9 full size 5Ds files together. My lights would dim!

Yes, it was a bit of a challenge. My old CS4 version of PS, didn't like the combination of being in a Windows 10 environment and 200+ MB file, it would just stop working when I hit Photomerge. I bit the bullet and finally subscribed to Adobe Creative Cloud, which worked like a charm. I used JPEG instead of TIFF to keep the file size down. The final file was "only" 153MB.

My new 4+mhz processor and 16G of RAM helped.

If you hav CC, in Lightroom you can stitch RAW files. Talk about a computer test!

Thanks for the heads up. I'm curious to try it tonight. Do you recall where to start. In PS, I'd File, Automate, Photomerge.

I'm not familiar with LR, since I'm a DxO geek, so these little tidbits will be helpful. When I get a little time, I'd like to take a deep dive into LR and compare heads-up with DxO with my own files.

I don't have the cc, so I'm not running the very latest update that has this option. I know you would first have to import the files into a Lightroom library, then it should just be a matter of selecting all the files, and right clicking to bring up the options. Someone who has cc might be able to chime in more, I have just read about the latest features .

Thanks for trying. Worst case is like I usually do, dig around until I find it. You never forget when you learn something that way.

As I have LR CC on this laptop, I've just taken a look Dave.
It's still as Ed says, with your images open in the 'Develop' module, right click, then choose 'Photomerge', then choose 'HDR' or 'Panorama'.
I haven't gone any further as I've nothing suitable to try, but good luck and I'd be interested to hear of your experience with this.

Glad to hear you've weighed into Adobe CC.
I've been using CC since the very early days and just love it. Because of the USD / GBP exchange rate, I'm actually paying less than I was when I started. My monthly direct debit is just £8.57. Wonderful value for money.

Thanks for the lead.

My CC is $9.99 per month, which is a good value vs. the $250 or so that I paid for a Student Version of PS CS4 (no LR), back in 2009. The non-student version would have been two or three times more. It did last several years, but I didn't get LR and the benefit from several upgrades. I think that the $9.99 makes sense. I've already been a dual-platform user, with DxO and PS working together to produce my panos.

Once I find the relative strengths of LR vs. DxO, I'll either move over to LR or decide which situations where I really need it.

Dave

Doing a 9-stitch panorama in LR, using the Raw files was a breeze, but my results sucked. The individual images looked sharp, but the stitch was really messy, just totally unsharp. I've got a lot to learn about LR, so take this with a grain of salt.

It's under Develop - Photo - select Photo Merge - then HDR or Panorama. Simple as can be, so I'm lost as to how I screwed it up.

I had selected All images and applied the same modest Sharpening, NR and Len Profile Corrections. The resulting panorama was way, way less sharp than the original Raw files.

I need to spend a day two working with individual images, trying to match my DxO results and then move into Panorama mode. Still, I can't understand why the results would be worse (unusable) than the Raw file.

Like learning any new software, I knew it wouldn't be easy.

I thought that my problem might be that I hadn't Exported it yet, so I completed the Raw conversion and Exported it to my HD and the results suck just as bad as they did in the Preview.

Just a quick shot (merged), but I hope we have clearer skies on Sunday. The sky tonight looked cool, but it won't make for good eclipse shots.
