The white spot you are referring to is the white/cream color tire sealant/paste they smear over my whole rim and tire. There was black residue all over the rims edge as well. There was enough of it covering the chipped area that I didn't see the damage during my initial inspection. Cleaned it off as best I could with a paper towel. My right front that they also changed had no damage and was significantly cleaner then my left. Thought they forgot to wipe down my left rim and tire at first.

Glad to hear it was just the clear coat and costco made it right. I'm now wondering if that's why others, including myself, have had weird cracking of the clear coat. Maybe BMWs clear coat is poor quality and gets easily damaged of a tire installer is not extra careful.

Clear coat has failed on several of my 437s. Pretty crap, really.
