some more HDR

i found my self at my grandfathers again today and figured id take another shot at my HDR technique with his backyard. i plan to go back when its not so overcast, but here's what i got from today. C&C always welcome. all 3 were a merger of 9 exposures.

its some statue my thats been in his backyard for the past 10 years or so. hes got a ton of that shit. i have no idea what we are going to do with it once he passes away. not that i want him to, but now with the crap economy, who is gonna buy all the stuff he has accumulated? i sure as well dont want it.

9!!! I've been just doing one +2, one +0 and one -2. What are your + and -?

You used a tripod, right?

Thanks,

Dave

yea i used a tripod, make sure you turn off IS when using the tripod for HDR, and went every stop from -2 to +2 im just meessing around with it. i know its overkill, but canon XXD only goes from -2 to +2. the only time i wish i had a nikkon was for hdr since they can go from a wider range.

I haven't done any HDR, but the Nikon D300 can do a ridiculous 9 frames with up to 1.3EV splits!

merge of 9? I thought only 3 were needed.

Is this the 17-55mm f2.8 lens?

Great shots, as always. I like how the pictures turned out, because I'm not a huge fan of HDR. I like it in smoe cases, but sometimes, I feel like they are being over-done, especially on this forum. No other places I see as many HDR pics as I see here on e90post.

PS. I just ordered my gear last Sunday!!! 17-55mm f2.8 and a 50D! should be arriving this week!

man you are going to love that set up. yes thats the lens i use. there is a lot of hdr on here, but thats the "thing" these days. have you been to POTN yet for the canon forums? there is a ton of info there. i use the same tag there as well.

as for the hdr, you can use 3, but if you use more you can get more detail at times in the highlights and shadows. the overdone hdr is just the way people adjust the sliders. i dont like the cartoon look too much so i try to keep them as close to a regular image as well. the bunch i took yesterday that i will post later is more of an example. these are more of the processed look.

Yeah I stopped doing HDR when it was unnecessary. I think people appreciate photos that don't appear to be edited heavily.

Nice work. I like HDR, so long as it isn't over the top. Here's an example of mine:

There are specific programs designed to create HDR images, but you can also DIY using Photoshop. See here for more info about HDR: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_dynamic_range_imaging

Here's my first HDR pic. I know it is a bit over done but I think it looks kinda neat.
