I think Australia needs more competition on insurance market... I’m paying appr. $3k USD per year for a 2017 M6 GC (comprehensive) - and this is the cheapest by a margin you can find. How does this compare to NZ? Fair enough, car prices are significantly higher than in the US - a really “good deal” low mileage M6 GC would be in the range of $120-130k USD (MSRP when new was appr. $240k +4% on road costs USD)... But still, I don’t think the insurance cost should be 3 times higher than what you guys are paying...

Lol... comparing insurance rates across variables like zip codes, companies, lines of coverage, coverage levels, deductibles, credit scores, claim histories, driving histories, age, sex is pointless.
The way you shop for insurance is, you get one quote with the declarations and you blast it out to all the companies and let them compete. But since you asked, I pay $1400 per year. But to get to my rate, I have: State Farm 770 FICO (yes your credit score factors into your insurance rates) $2mm of assets covered (my umbrella decreases my auto insurance coverage to state minimums) Home and 2 cars mulitline discount 15 year customer loyalty discount low mileage discount no accidents 1 speeding ticket in the last 8 years 1 comprehensive claim on a scratch SF Zip code. 36, married, kids. And if I were to shop for auto insurance myself, I would have to give them my full $2mm of declarations to be comparing apples to apples. Last edited by Flying Ace; 08-14-2018 at 12:32 PM.. |

Yes, correct, mine is insured for “market value” - new for old replacement if full loss during the first 2 years. But the funniest thing is that the insurance cost tends to go up when despite the car depreciating... So something is wrong with the Australian insurance market... My F13 was at the end insured for comparable value to yours now, but still the insurance cost was appr. $3500 AUD, so nearly double to yours (assuming $2.2k is NZD)... Maybe there are so many !diots Driving M6s in Australia so insurance companies risk rating is miserable...

Firstly, we have to figure out the exchange rate equivalent, and even if we did, we have to assess what 1 NZD buys you vs 1 USD. (PPP or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Mac_Index) Secondly, as I described in my post, the insurance industry in the US runs on those factors for pricing. In the US they don't look at "market value". They look at estimated cost of parts replacement per accident for the car, the car's risk rating (a Lancer Evolution was rated a street legal race car) and the general accident rates of that type of car. Every company runs its own numbers differently and assesses risks differently.

Congrats! Some of you are getting brilliant rates! I'm currently paying 8k with Farmers for an F12 vert and SL63. I was paying 5K for the same Bimmer and XKR before the jag got totaled out after hit-and-run. LA County pricing. Car chases and 1/3 of the vehicles non-insured, registered or being operated by a licensed driver.

Full coverage in Georgia through progressive is $255 a month. Might switch though cause i think i get discounts with certain insurance companies with my job.
Im 22, with nothing on my record. Cant wait to hit 25 for it to lower some.
