That looks like a penis to you? Look at the curve of the waist, the hips, the swell of the... headlights. The XKE was highly feminine.

The Jaguar E-Type (no XK) has been called a male phallic symbol since the 60s. Where have you been?

I've been around since then. I've also been studying automotive design since the early 70s, and saw all the car magazine cartoons with the E type done up AS a female (including lashes on the headlights) done in the '60s.

The cokebottle shape with the pinched waist and flowing curves is a fairly accurate representation of the human female form, and has zero resemblence to any sort of penis, and is actually heading toward a more callipygian form. It was drawn from the preceding D Type and C type, which are even more obviously female..

It's almost crotch-like...

It's really only fairly recently that the E type got the phallic connotation. But it's really no more phallic than any other front engine GT, from the Daytona to the 250 GTO. In reality, it's sensual for the reasons the male brain finds certain forms sensual...

Not only ugly BMW's, ugly cars in general.

I still think the X6 is the German Pontiac Aztek.

haha, this is great, now people are throwing around their credentials to back up their opinions...

to each their own.
blasphemous as it may be to most of you, I don't actually care much for many of the older sedans from the 70's/80's.

I think the 6 looks hot. Don't much like the vert, though. But I don't like almost any convertible version of a given model of car. (excepting ridiculous fantasy cars, like the reventon roadster). And in keeping with my fondness of the 6's, I love the X6.

I have to say I dislike the X3 the most (it looks like a baby bootie to me). Also not a fan of the E60 5-series... it just looks too plain to me. And the guyliner on the headlights drives me nuts. It looks like it's wearing makeup.

You're right. Opinions are best if they are uninformed and uneducated.

I know what you're saying, but when the query is a purely subjective issue, no amount of qualification will make your opinion better/stronger than someone else's.

Sure, if it's about, say, your favorite color, whether you're afraid of spiders, etc.

Cars, however, are mechanical, and thus not natural. Our responses to them are learned, not inherent, and are affected by our knowledge. Even supposedly subjective opinions (such as liking convertibles or newer/older cars) are based on learned information/misinformation, and as such can be UNleanred or modified, based on knowledge or learning. So yes, credentials make a difference, as does length of time learning about a subject, and whther the opinions you form are based on actual facts.

If it couldn't be learned, then it couldn't be taught, and the Art Center College of Design would be out of business.

I hope you didn't think I was specifically calling you out. I just always laugh when people (multiple posts in this thread) get so vehement about someone else's subjective opinion about what looks good to them being "wrong." But it's the internet, and just a forum, so it's not a big deal.

I agree with much of what you are saying, though I disagree with the application to the question posed by this thread. I feel like we could have an enjoyable discussion about it.

However, none of that is really relevant, and I'm now guilty of two posts that are completely off topic. No more, promise.

i personally think the 3 series coupe and the m3 coupe are BMW's only good designs right now. Especially compared to what other brands have out. Mercedes and Audi's line up are way better looking.

Oh and the x6
