Transmission Temperature Warning - 2018 BMW M4

Has anyone experienced a transmission temperature warning message before? If so, what was the issue?

I first got the warning message back in December, and the shop wasn't able to diagnose the issue as the warning mysteriously disappeared. Fast forward to April, the same warning message has come up 3 times in the past two weeks.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have read people doing a transmission fluid and filter change and fixed the problem.

Did a transmission fluid change earlier this week. Hopefully that does the trick, thank you!

I've had this same issue for several months with my 2018 m3 and it seemed to be completely random. Long story short, after going back and worth with BMW, indy shops, and my 3rd party warranty, I ended up purchasing a used trans. Haven't had issues since.

It is hard to pin point / diagnose the exact reason for the temp light as it can mean a number of things such as slipping clutch or temp sensor (temperature sensor part # 28107842851) failing as per

If it continues, I'd contact an indy shop that specializes in BMW trans and provide as much detail (driving conditions, how long the light lasts, after x miles/minutes/hours of driving, etc).

Hopefully the fluid change resolves your issue. Good luck!
