BMW Assist Retrofit

Hi Guys,
Tomorrow I pick a 2005 330d up from the garage.

It has Sat Nav Professional, Bluetooth & TV. I thought it had BMW Assist but unfortunatley it doesn't.

Is it possible to retrofit this? If so, please can you tell me which parts I will need to purchase. In the boot I have a metal box which I believe is the bluetooth device. Would it just be a case of swapping this box for a telematics + bluetooth box and changing the roof centre console to one with an SOS button in?

Many thanks in advance.

It should be as simple as unplugging your ULF, plugging the TCU and replacing the FZD.

Well that sounds nice and easy then!

Thanks Technic

Do you think the dealer will have to recode the car?

For Assist, yes; the FZD needs to be registered and the TCU needs to know your VIN.

OK thanks.

I'll get the prices for these two parts tomorrow.

I guess around £550 for the parts alone.

Maybe £250 for the coding...

Contact forum member Patrys... he can code that for you; he's a vendor here.

I called Elvet BMW today and priced up the parts.

TCU = £271.00
SOS Equipped Light Switch Console = £242.00

I asked about the coding and he went away to speak with an engineer. The engineer said that he doesn't think it's possible to retrofit this kit as the vehicles VIN would need to be added the the BMW system in Germany and that the vehicle order would also have to be changed. He said he wasn't confident that the new system would work after installation and that I would lose a load of £££.

I know people on here have done this type of thing before. Even retrofitted Sat Nav in a non Sat Nav car. I explained that it's been done before and he asked if they were American cars. When I said yes he said well American cars are completely different with different part numbers etc.

Maybe Elvet BMW don't know what they're talking about...

What do you guys think? Is it worth taking the risk and ordering the parts?

You should try to get the parts used at eBay and then try the coding at either an Autologic shop or thru forum member Patrys.
