Rear view camera malfunction

Hey guys, I keep getting the message that says rear view camera malfunction, but the camera still works without an issue. What gives?

Thanks

Do you have top/side view cameras as well? If so, any errors on those?

Typically, issue is one of the following:

Defective camera module
Defective camera
Shorted or otherwise bad HSD wire connecting the module to the camera.

FYI, BMW has had issues with corrosion on the camera pins in some vehicles. I doubt that is your issue unless rubber seals went bad.

Take it in and let them get the fault codes. Hopefully its not the HSD wire as this requires r&r of several interior trim pieces to run a new cable.

I do have the side/top cameras, but have no gotten a malfunction on that yet. The car is about 7 months old so I doubt any seals have gone bad.

I guess ill take it in and see what they say, this car just keeps giving me problems after problems. Kind of starting to get annoyed.

Seals can be bad from brand new. The back of the camera is plastic and if the cable holder gets cracked could invite corrosion in. Then again, I highly doubt it in dry California.

Hopefully its just the camera module or the camera. Both are simple to replace.

What other problems have you been dealing with? Sorry to hear....

Well at first it was over heating and going in to limp mode, which ended up being my fan. It over heated and had to be towed to the dealer. Then my tail light came off and now this. Ive had the car for 7 months lol.
