Hey everybody, so my tires are due to be replaced and I have a couple questions related to size. So on the door it says tire size should be 225/45/r18 for the front and 255/40/r18 for the rears on my 2017 f30 xdrive.

1. Is it required to run a staggered tire setup like this? Does it matter if all my tires are the same width?

2. Am I able to run 245/40/18 tires all around? Or will that be too wide for the front? I'm assuming 225/40/r18's will be fine for front and rear but not sure about a wider tire.

those are your oem specs on the door if u havent changed ur wheels then the answer is YES its required to run staggered because ur rear wheels are prob .5 wider than the front.

On another note it is Possible but youd have a stretched look and this is usually only achieved for slammed wheels trying to tuk the fender. Obviously ur situation isnt that drastic but thats the theory there…

You do relize by having the stagger setup is what contributes to better steering handling etc?

If you're on staggered alloys then ideally yes. If you're xDrive then stick to OEM tyre sizes - it'll save you issues with the xDrive system

If you're RWD you've more options; but 245 on an 18x8 is too big IMO

I run 235/45/18s all round on OEM 18x8s (405Ms for summer and 397s for winter) - makes life easier when it comes to tyres

If you want; just sell your staggered wheels; or buy 2 fronts to fit to the rear and then run the tyre sizes you want all round

1. No & no.

2. Yes & no.

The wheels are only 1/2” staggered and both will fit a 245. While you’d generally run a square tire setup on a square wheelset, there’s no real problems doing it with a small wheel stagger like the OE 8/8.5s.

You’ll like the greatly improved handling with the 245 in front. I ran 245/255 for a while on my original wheels.

Thanks alot! Planning to drive hard this summer so gonna need that extra handling. Gonna go grab that set of 245's then, I found a great deal 250$ off msrp brand new on marketplace.

As stated already, your car is xDrive, so you need to be VERY careful with what tyres you fit

Have you checked that they'll meet the requirements as to not mess the xDrive system up?

If he’s going to run 245 square, there’s no issue. Square tire setups are perfect for x-drive…

Apologies; missed that bit!

Someone here in the UK was doing similar; didn't heed the advice given and wrecked his transfer box by running the wring sizes, even though they'd been told numerous times!

I would not run square tires on staggered wheels. The sidewall will look stretched on the wider wheels and I imagine the handling may be a little different. You can't rotate the staggered wheels back to front, so why not use the OE tire sizes? The staggered setup is actually an upgrade, you should have the Style 398 wheels, assuming you still have the OE setup.

If you really want a square setup, best to get square wheels, IMO.
