I've had 2 A5 (both 3.0TDIs) in the last 4 years and loved them both, so hopefully the improvements in the A4 will be seen in the 2017 A5, just in time for me to defect back to Audi.
Having driven both the A5s and my current 4 series I think (and I know I'm going to get hammered for saying this) that they attract a very similar type of customer - especially with respect to feeling obliged to hate the other brand, and similarly with the A4 and 3 series. As direct competitors to each other, we, the purchasers, feel that we must love and defend our own, and despise and criticise the opposition. IMHO there are some points that I prefer about the A5 (looks, seats, DSG) and some in the 435 (engine, iDrive, HUD), however neither car is perfect, both are however, very, very good in their own way - and I'm sure this applies to the A4 v 3 series too. Incidentally I had a Merc C-Coupe between the 2 A5s and that was (IMHO) crap in nearly all respects and a truly regrettable purchase. In these last 4 years, going Audi, Merc, Audi, BMW I'm sure I've not changed hugely as a direct result of owning a particular car but anyway, that's just my two penneth worth! |

Reminds me a joke a guy told me yesterday when talking about his mobile phone .... What's your ringtone? I don't know I've never looked but I imagine a reddy pink colour?

Shame as I do like to chop and change and would have fancied the new A4. I have the same issue with the Jag XE also. |

The tech is antiquated though, hence my move, that and 17mpg, 12k miles per year and a very nervous disposition whenever it goes into the garage. Hands down best car I've owned. *that revs to 8,250rpm and can also carry lots of shopping, 5 adults and bags of style in a very nonchalant fashion. Lovely stance with that RS4.
What were your thoughts with going 330 rather than 335, would have thought you would want to minimise the Bhp drop. |

I don't like the 4x4 ride height on the 435d xdrive, I also like the feel of RWD. The RS is a powerful beastie, but you have to wring its neck to maximise the potential, I do hope I've made the right decision, I'm hoping a 430d will 'torque' me round I have no particular affinity for travelling at warp speed these days, I've dodged far too many bullets in this car. I'll see how business is going in 3 years time, i'll either be in a Ford fiesta or something nice like a B9 RS. Ive gone from Audi to BMW to Audi to BMW, so we'll see |

Totally understand your thoughts on the Xdrive ride height and many agree with you especially after the efforts you have made with the Audi.

Very encouraging review and I will be definitely taking at look at the new A4 before ordering my 320d's replacement in the autumn.
I fall right back in the middle of their target audience as a company car driver with a 2.0tdi so it will be interesting. Very interestingly it looks as though I could get a 2.0TFSi engine with 187bhp, need to understand the tax benefits as I am sure company car drivers are penalised for diesel car ownership. Looks to have been a decent job by Audi. |
