Are our cars built in SA or DE?
I'm not sure whether it's a case of supply/demand on whether our F30's are built in South Africa or Germany, anyone know?
I don't expect there to be any difference in quality, but I do expect a couple of weeks difference in delivery times. |

Yes, the F30's for Australia (and other destinations) are thankfully being built in Rosslyn. As for delivery time, based on my E90 being a May 2005 build, it was delivered to my Melbourne dealer mid July 2005. I would expect similar build/delivery times for the F30.

Yep, my F30 is a May build with a (late) July delivery. My delivery date is a Saturday but if it is ready sooner, I will be taking the day off.

I'd get the paint and leather protection done by my detailer while I read the manual, then go for a good drive somewhere. Ideally it's a Friday and I'd rent a cabin up in the hinterland somewhere and take the wife away for the weekend |

Providing you can get the VIN from the dealer, you can track the shipping of your car using the info at the following thread...
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...7#post10011707 There is currently one F30 328i on sale at carsales. By entering that car's VIN into the tracking website, its shipping details can be retrieved (it was RECEIVED AT TERMINAL BREMERHAVEN 20-12-2011 and DELIVERED FROM PORT KEMBLA 10-02-2012 ~52 days). So it looks like the initial batch of Oz F30s (for dealers, demos, reviews, etc) were built in Germany. Last edited by bcoz; 05-02-2012 at 07:39 AM.. |

My dealer informed me that my car began it's production cycle on 1st May and anticipating the following times I should get it at the end of June. 1 week to build 2 weeks to transport to Durban and ship loading 2 week trip to Fremantle 1 week for unloading at Fremantle and delivery to Customs 1 week to comply and deliver to dealer 1 week for dealer prep (Should only take 2 days) 8 weeks in total. Well here's hoping anyway. Last edited by Paninaro; 05-24-2012 at 10:28 PM.. |

Yes it does seem like a long time for a car built some time in May to be delivered to Australia. If it gets here sooner, I'll not be complaining, as long as I have notice, because I need to sell my 125i and arrange finance.

Got my VIN/Chassis number last week and I believe it's going on the "Morning Charlotte" car carrier which docks in Durban tomorrow. I think there is a very good chance your car will be on that ship if it was built this month (MAY). The ship is due in Fremantle on the 6th June and in Melbourne on the 12th June.

If you know your chasis number, you'll be able to decode the assembly plant, the "key" is the 11th digit.
