Uncanny timing on your e93 rear roof rattle. My task today is to try to solve it. I fixed the front rattle with the washers. Fingers crossed on the rear.

My rattle is coming from the drivera side rear. I need to get some one to sit in the back while I drive and find where it's coming from. Stupid after market exhaust lol

One person wrote "small hinged plastic squares at the rear of the parcel shelf, which rise up to allow the roof arms to extend. Can't see those? No, they're hidden - that's why. Here's how you check. Start to open the roof and stop when the roof is stacked and the rear deck is about half way up. The plastic squares can then be got at. Wiggle and flex them slightly - don't break them! One of mine creaked when moved. That was both the creak and the rattle that had been annoying me for a whole year. A drop of silicone or WD stopped it completely."

Where on those do you drop WD cause its all plastic?

Hey I decided to make little photo tutorial for those who are little lost how to fix this hardtop (front) rattle.
You can use original bmw washers which are about 0.5mm thick or like me home depot $0.99 washer. But careful one HD washer is thick as 3 bmw's.
In my application I found 3 original washers already installed and ended up with 2 orig + 1HD which equals 5 orig.

You will need mentioned washers and 13mm deep socket or wrench.

It didn’t work at all! Just quiet a few, but the clunk sound still there.
Here,s my way to fix this:

Remove the liner above the windshield, just need a screwdriver and a little patience. Than you will see the bracket that catch the roof hinge. The screw( maybe T20 or T15) of these two bracket( left and right) may be loosened due to the long driving time of the vehicle. Just tight them up, then the rattle or clunk noise will all disappeared!

I just registered an account to let every e93 owner known this information haha.
I’ve take a lot of photo about this, but I don’t know how to post photo here. Can anybody help me this?

There's a little square icon with a red + in it above the message box you type in. It's for attachments. Click on that and you'll be prompted for the file name you want to insert. Select the file name and click upload.

photo of the tightened parts

This to photo is the bracket that catch the roof hinge.
As you can see there are three tox screws on there as pic 1.

See the screws closer in pic 2, you can see there has some trace of displacement.
This is becuase the screw is loosened, and the bracket can't hold in position.
in this situation, you will heard lot of noise come from the hinge.

To fix this, just loosened the screws and move the bracket to the original position, and tightened the screws with a little Loctite on it. Both the driver and pessenger side need to do this work.

Before install back all the interior back, do the road driving test first.

Yeah thats a good point. But you do not have to remove the liner to reach that bolts. It takes apprx 1 min to reach there. Just remove the sun visor lights and there it is.

I've noticed that there is a black spring/plastic rod in the hole where the conical catch fits into..only on the left (passenger UK) but not on the right handside side. Is this normal?

You can use a 13mm deep socket to remove the alignment pin. I used a 13mm open end box wrench with no problem. No need to remove the liner.

The pic is of the passenger side pin.

This post is old but I just wondered if anyone could answer my question.
I’ve just added a few more washers today, found some that were added by the previous owners. This has fixed the issue but I was wondering how this worked. Obviously adding the washer means there is less room for movement. However, I was wondering why the rattle occurred in the first place? Is there something wearing down in the base plate or the alignment pins?
