H&R Sport on 335is, almost slammed?
Hey guys,
I went back and forth for a good few months on whether I wanted to lower my car or not using coil overs. I had it down to the TCK SA coils because they are local to me and it just makes things more convenient and its a pretty well built product. I thought about it some more and talked with Tony from Turn In Concepts and he reminded me of how noisy coil overs get (I have had multiple sets on my e46). So I decided to do a nice spring and shock/strut setup since I usually set it and forget it with the coil overs anyway. I basically wanted something that worked a lot better than stock and sat a little bit lower (the raised front end look is so ugly imo). I went ahead and also did M3 front and rear arms, M3 front sway, and M3 rear subframe bushings. Fast forward to now, 1000 or so miles after getting lowered and scraping just about every where, I'm curious as to what you guys think about what springs I really have... TiC confirmed they ordered the Sport springs, and I totally believe them, GREAT people by the way. But, my car seems super low to be on the sport springs. I can't get out to the garage until my day off thursday so I haven't had a chance to check the part number on the springs, but I will post some pics. What are everyone's thoughts? Sorry for the cell phone pics. Do these seem like H&R Sports? I'm on Koni Yellows btw, great shock Last edited by SUHleen; 04-08-2014 at 10:27 PM.. |

Personally, it looks "slammed" and doesn't appeal to me
. . . BUT it's your car and, if you like it, that's all that matters, as long as it's not causing you any problems running your suspension that way. Enjoy!

It's funny you ask this question. I just had H&R springs put in and thought the same thing. I left the original shocks in place so it's just the H&R Sport Springs. I would have sworn they put in the race/super Sport springs. My car is pretty slammed as well. I run 245/35/19 on the front and 275/30/19 on the rear.
After seeing your post, I'm starting to think this is normal for our car. |

I felt the same way but they have grown on me. I didn't want it this low either but now I like it. I get minor rubbing from the wheel well liner. It's really just the plastic lining in the well. The fenders seem to be fine. Plus I"m also running some wide wheels.
I'll take pictures of my car in the morning and them post them. My ride looks almost identical to yours. It's strange how similar they both are. |

Well if I am turning and hit a bump, I'm pretty sure my fronts hit the fender. My front end scrapes on a LOT, and even sometimes the middle of my car scrapes over inclines. It rides REALLY well even for how low it is (I'm on Koni Yellows) but it is a daily and I'd like it a little bit higher.

I also have H&R sports with Koni yellow and it's my daily. I like the drop, no wheel gaps are the way to go, yeah it scraps but it's never low enough. The little front flap underneath on my passenger side was broken and I tore it off, just waiting for the driver side to break before I can rip that out too.
BTW I would not worry about hitting the front fenders with that offsets, I have 19x8.5 et 25 (225/35 tires) and I never worry about hitting the fender.

Yea one of mine was already missing I just need to take off the other flap. Apparently those are there for aerodynamics as I was told. And they do hit my fenders lol Look at the pic where my wheel is turned. Imagine that but hitting a rut or a bump in the road... I can hear it everytime it rubs |

Ok, I'm running a 12mm spacer in the rear, and rub (but I was slightly rubbing over huge dips before being lowered). That is an easy fix, I think I can take care of that as I don't really have too aggressive of a wheel and tire setup. As far as the front, what camber are you running?

I'm going to bump this up. Someone told me there were two different sets of H&R sport springs for these cars (NOT talking about the super sport/race), has anyone else heard of this? The car has a rake to it and most other cars on the H&R sports I have seen have NOT been this way?

Glad I saw this thread... I'm new to the scene with recent acquisition of a '11 335is and have been looking at which springs to go with. I'm not into the whole "slammed" look as well and like you have had plenty of experience with noisy coil over setups on past Supras', 3000GTs', RX7s' ect... Do not want the noise or aggravation of setting them up and then the noise considering I only set them the one time never messed with them again so no point not to mention I don't plan going to the track, mainly for ashtetics. I think this time around I'm going the spring route again.
I have a set of Eibach springs on my G37s and they look good, could be a tad lower but I don't think I would like my car sitting that low to be honest especially with the roads here in Baltimore. I was looking at H&R and saw some pics online but they didn't seem to drop that much in the pics I saw. Should be interesting if you find out if in fact they do offer different kits. Maybe I should stick with the old reliables and go with the eibach setup again on the 335. Keep us informed and thanks for sharing! Take care, Joe |

Made a call to H&R finally after my tire chipped a corner of my fender off. H&R confirmed that there is not multiple sets (at least for the e92), there is only one. He had no explanation for why the car sits so low but told me to check my bump stops. He said a different bump stop could cause the car to sit lower, especially if it is shorter. Everywhere else I have read in the past that different bump stops do not matter? Just about every pic of the H&R sports I see online have about a finger gap between the tire and the fender. I can barely get a piece of paper in between on my car. Does any one have any other ideas? Part numbers are all correct...
