Performance steering wheel problem

Hi guys,

I've recently installed a BMW Performance steering wheel with LED display on my car. Everything went fine but I've noticed a few days later that sometimes the shift lights done come on properly. It usually happens when I'm driving easy for the first 10-15minutes and then when I do accelerate to 6k+ rpm (I have a 335i), they don't come on.

I try to lower the RPM they come on at via the menu but they then come on at the wrong RPM compared to what the steering wheel display says. Weird thing is that when I turn the car off and on, they work perfectly,

Has anyone had this problem?

Thanks

Idnan

thanks for the reply. I do know that, but it seems that the steering wheel at times misreads the revs and doesn't come at the rpm I have set it at.

If you'd read the manual it says that right after installing the wheel you need to properly adjust it to your car. Here's a snippet from the guide.
PS - you *will* need another person. There's no way to press both buttons and the ignition at the same time

Basic settings
To ensure the unit functions properly, two basic settings must be performed on completion of the installation:
- Simultaneously hold down the left (L) and right (R) keys on the performance steering wheel while switching
on the ignition
-Using the key R, select either diesel or petrol-engined car
(the small box around the text signifies that the option is selected)
-Press the key L to save the setting and to advance to the setting “Correction factor for speed”
- Start the engine and maintain a constant, easily readable engine speed (e.g. 1000 rpm)
- Compare the display on the steering wheel with that on the rev counter
- You can increase the correction factor by holding the key R down, or reduce it by tapping the key R briefly
several times until the two displays correspond
- When you switch the ignition off again, the settings are stored

Will try that tonight onebadmofo.

Unfortunately, it happened to me again on the way to work. I let the temperature come up and accelerated to 6000rpm and no shift lights again!!

I changed the shift light revs and it seems that the wheel seems to be reading 1100rpm irregardless of what the car is actually revving at. I'll have to try to adjust the setup as above and then retrace my wiring.

Good day!
My e90 330i just built this BP Ele.Steering Wheel, everything is going well, ONLY one tiny issue...No Oil Temp Show Up?
Need Coding? Or Re-Connected Battery?(We did not do disconnect Battery in this time.)
I just found two versions of Instruction of installation from BMW AG, I used the 2008 version.

btw, does anyone be able to entre the Basic Setting Mode?I have been trying several times, it seems NOT working at all, perhaps, my wheel is still under Diesel Mode~~~

Any Suggestion? Many thanks!

Tony

Unhook the battery and plug it back if your RPM is stock on the wheel.
