Mercedes spec tires on my BMW?

Need some help/opinions.

I bought a 2020 F32 from a BMW dealer in December (in another state). It has summer-only tires on it, so I parked it in my garage until now. Today I took it to a local shop for state inspection. The shop found a bulge in one of the front tires and therefore cannot give it a pass -- that tire must be replaced.

The shop also found that the rear tires are Mercedes spec tires and advised that the car should not be run with Mercedes spec tires.

Is there any risk/truth to this? I am thinking I might just replace all four tires, but they have 8/32" tread depth so not exactly worn. They are run-flats though, so my plan was always to replace with non-run-flats, but not until needed.

Any advice? I've never heard of "Mercedes spec" tires. I contacted the dealer that sold me the car and they said they didn't put those tires on it and it passed their state's inspection, so tough luck for me.

Yes, Mercedes "Original" tires are a thing, but I can't see having them on a BMW being a safety issue.

Regardless, it is best to have all four tires that are the same model, age and tread depth.

Thanks for the info. I ended up calling Tire Rack to get their advice. The guy told me there are OEM specs for certain tires, but they (Tire Rack) do not get informed exactly what's different. He said as long as the tires are the correct size and load rating, there should be no issues with mixing tires with different OEM specs. So I told the shop to just replace the one front and leave the rears.

There are slighly modifications in the OEM models required by the brand, as shown in this video.

They'll be fine. They might have slightly different traits to the generic version, or a BMW version, but the reality is that they're probably not going to be anything more major or noticeable than just switching to an equivalent tyre from a different brand. FWIW I've got 245/45/18 Conti winters all round on mine and they're both BMW * marked and Mercedes MOE marked.

Don't stress about it, swap out the tyre that's damaged and swap all 4 for non-RFT when they're worn out. These guys are either reading from the 'only BMW parts are best script', or just trying to make more money from you.

Good advice and I agree. That’s exactly what I had them do. I figured I am not tracking the car, and it’s highly unlikely that Medeces puts shitty tires on their cars. No sense throwing away nearly new tires that are plenty adequate.

Even AC Schnitzer puts the "MO" tires on their M4 G82 cars!
