Most Comfortable XI Upgrade - FSD???

On researching, consensus on most comfortable upgrade appeared to be Koni FSD. However, I was talking to a local German auto shop and the owner had a very bad opinion of Koni, specifically the yellows. He recommended Bilstein HD.

Thoughts?

Some additional information:

My car is an 06 330xi with 67k miles. I'm down a right rear shock - dealer quoted $1000 for rear shock replacement (lol). I'm looking to keep as much OEM comfort as possible since this is almost exclusively an around town car, with some spirited weekend driving (and since I'm on 19" wheels already). Also, I'm going to keep my stock springs, since lowering is going to degrade quality as well.

Appreciate any help.

Flatter turning, better rebound control?

To be clear, I'm still interested in improving performance as well. I'd just like to make the least compromise to ride quality.

If you want more control on how your shocks perform, I would recommend Koni Yellow Sports. Also, I would recommend Eibach Pro-kit springs - they will not degrade ride quality if you are performance oriented. Check out the SM300 kit on my website. I am building one for xi now.
Thanks, Chris

Skip the B4 and go B6 for sure.

I don't want adjustability, really. I don't have the time to fine tune; I want to set it and forget it. I'm just looking for an OEM replacement with marginal increases in performance and minimal degradation in ride quality. I don't really want to compromise very much.

Jeff:

Why the B6 in terms of the ride quality/performance trade off?

Chris:

The yellows are much stiffer than OEM, I've read, even at the softest setting - why not the FSD?

KW Street Comfort might be something to take a look at. Thats what I'm pretty much set on to purchasing, as I am looking for a very mild drop, increase in performance, maintaining a comfortable ride. height and dampening adjustable. Sounds like they might fit your needs as well.

sounds like the FSD's are really what you want, unless you want to spend a lot more for the KW street comfort coilovers.

Unfortunately, KW SC aren't for the X-drive platform.

I think FSDs are the direction I'm heading.

Yellows are meant for lowering springs.

FSDs are known to give a bouncy ride with xDrive springs.

+1 for B6s
