Dreaded insurance - have you confessed ?
Morning all
I purchased an F32 Lci with the full M performance body tweeks (carbon front, sill extensions, rear diffuser and carbon rear boot lip) a few days ago, I got 7 days free insurance as I bought it from a main dealer and am now looking at my own insurance. The question is have you lot with the same ‘very light body kit’ declared it as a modification ? Thanks all |

Yes & the MPPSK, if you don’t you may as well state the car is a 1.1 Fiesta! I know in a claim they may not pick up on the kit but is it worth the worry over a few quid extra on your premium?
The insurance company won’t be interested if the kit was fitted at factory though or that’s what LV stated when I was with them. |

Declare it, cosmetic mods do very little to price anyway. If it was dealer fit prior to collection then mention that, dealer fit optional extras aren't even considered mods by some insurers.

To be 100% covered you need to declare them as they will be classed as a modification if they arent fitted at the factory.
Try a few insurers as that is the only way to check prices. No point asking on here. But as said, you may as well not have insurance if you dont declare these things. Bit like buying an M4 and then telling the insurance its a 420d. |

On comparison sites all extras and mods either jack the price or exclude the insurer from pricing, in my experience if you buy from a a reputable insurer based on a standard vehicle, then call and explain that you want to check their stance on the dealer fit items they usually add these foc as the systems struggle with making sense of dealer fit and the real risk because ther systems don’t have access to the underwriters!
Case in point ac springs, struggle to cover my car with them fitted but when I added them half way through my Aviva cover, they were foc as the underwriter didn’t give a monkeys, the systems online however say no!? Providing you call them ASAP before the cover begins the worst that will happen is u need to cancel in the 14 day period and start again. HTH |

I have my insurance via Admiral and they seem ok with mods to body and suspension. Think all in it’s added about £50 or so to the quote.

I am with Admiral also , just the £25 admin fee to add the cosmetic interior / exterior stuff and £45 + admin fee to add the MPPSK.
In total £300 Comp for my 440 , i knew there would be some benefits to being 50. Too much money involved to give them a get-out clause should something happen. Kenny |

I didn't declare it on mine and I had a repair done under insurance with no problems at all.
Also didn't declare spoiler, diffuser, black grilles on my 330d, and when someone reversed into my boot insurance repaired it including replacing the aftermarket spoiler for a genuine BMW one! |

Insurance through BMW is coming up cheapest so far at £420 but that doesn’t involve the bodykit yet, I think I’ll call them tomorrow morning to discuss and get their view.
Thanks everyone, much appreciated. |

Not to mention that the car is now more attractive to theft, etc. Your claim might well be refused or (more likely) reduced in the event of theft. |
