M performance vs ebay spoilers
Hi everybody, trying to determine whether i should
- get m performance spoiler (comes painted for an additional fee) - get ebay spoiler, paint it at local body shop, and use real 3M tape - Gloss black spoiler (to match accents and m performance black grill) - color matching spoiler Should I gloss black wrap the whole roof, or does it looks weird? I wanted to black out my 328i emblem in gloss black. Should I order gloss black emblem from the internet or should I just use Plasti dip? Should I get the 328xi instead of 328i badge and remove the other little XDrive badge that is on the right? Thanks guys Last edited by FanboyBMW; 03-24-2014 at 07:24 PM.. |

I think this is where it becomes personal preference.
As of right now, my f30 is stock except for some awesome window tint. But in the coming weeks, I will be wrapping my roof. Now normally, I would be against this, but I need to a roof rack to mount my road bike. And I don't want all the dirt and debris to damage my roof. Now, I am planning on getting carbon fiber roof (some don't like this route, and some do). The 2 other options that I was gonna go with were gloss black or clear. For the spoiler, I would either color match or get carbon fiber. I don't think it really matters if it's M Performance or replica. Maybe others would like to chime in if they're shaped or molded differently. The badge---again something I normally am against, but I am almost close to convincing myself to debadge (I have a 335i). It'd be nice to see a carbon fiber badge on a car though. But other than that, keep it OEM. Now these are all my preferences, again, everyone has different flavors. Hope the best to you and your f30! Just put my flat black M performance spoiler on my MG abPek ago. Really liking it a lot. I posted two pictures in the official mobile photo thread. But our is deg all about personal preference in this case. For me, I have flat black rear diffuser, black out rear reflectors and black wheels, so I thought flat black spoiler would go good and it pops a a little more on the trunk.

does the ebay spoiler fit perfectly with no raised edges? is the color match perfectly? did you guys use the tape that comes with it? is the tape durable or will it damage clearcoat/paint? should i go get 3m?

Yes. They are different shapes. You might not be able to tell the difference at first glance, but side by side comparisons make it very obvious. In another thread some one brought up this exact comparo. The real one looks better imo.
If I had the spare change for the real deal, I'd definitely go for that. But I don't really care about spoilers so if I was to get one, I'd probably spring for ebay one. |

I have a $40 replica fiberglass trunk spoiler that I had painted (...and a $150 CF replica that I left unpainted). Why pay $300+ for the same part? Nobody will know the difference.

Did you buy it already painted?
I have full OEM Kit which came in Matt Black & was sent to a body shop where the bottom lip of the splitter, side sills & bootlid spoiler was color matched. They also did the fitment of everything. Also did VPS wrap on the whole front up to a 1/3 of the bonnet. The car looks as everything came off the assembly floor at the factory. You need to make sure you get the right people to do it properly |
