Does it matter? I'm not sure, but for the US market, I don't think people are interested in a BMW that can't outrun a 4 cylinder Accord or Corolla. |

The total peak power output of the Hybrid drivetrain is not simply the sum of the motor & the engine (in that case it would be 181ps). Toyota use their own calculations & the "system output" is rated at 136ps max. Last edited by clarence; 01-25-2013 at 04:34 AM.. |

No car magazine that I can find has been able to replicate the Toyota 0-60 times. In a recent test the Lexus lt200h (same drivetrain as Prius) was clocked at mid 13's to 60 .....and if you use the cars on motorways at motorway speeds the 316D will run better mpg figures than a prius.

I think the diesel would've gone down well in the states as the extra torque would balance the fact that the average 25 stone yank would enjoy the full performance of the car and negate the need to diet.... ; D

I use people's understanding of the brilliance of wagons (as family haulers / daily drivers, as opposed to the zenith of automotive perfection) as a guideline for innate intelligence and overall mental aptitude. Of course, you don't need to own one so long as you can process why a wagon makes sense in certain circumstances. It's the vehement chest-thumping of a certain narrow-minded class of individual (as outlined in the initial comment to which the above response was made) that is very sad not only for automotive enthusiasts, but humanity in general . |

IIRC there is an E34 M Touring. Now that would have been awesome.

I vacation in the UK every year and see many, many, many fat Brits. From Dover to the Isle of Skye and everywhere in between there are lots of very pale lard a$$es, so don't be too quick to condemn the States

The UK and USA are two countries separated by a common language.
We say tomaato, you say tomaeto. Ours really taste much better as they come from Italy and Spain. Yankee Doodle went to town A-riding on a pony He stuck a feather in his hat And called it macaroni Love ya all!

Where's the selection for 335iT 6MT? Not that I can have one, but that's what I would want. I'm all about the wolf in sheep's clothing. Folks have very low expectations when you pull up in a wagon. I'm in the process of building my own E34 M5T. If I ever get around to finishing the S38B38 build anyway.

Yes, you can get grey market E34 M5 Tourings here in the US. It'll run something like $20-$25k. I'm very tempted, but I really want AWD if I'm gonna buy a boat. That's what I don't get about the F30 people who hate on the F31. The F30 is already a big sedan. It's a comfortable sporty DD, not some model of automotive perfection that would be spoiled by being more practical.

I'm only in a 535i wagon due to not many takers and initial depreciation taking a massive hit, which makes it a viable car to own for lowish annual mileage. Mine is an ex BMW HQ car, over 40% off new list, at just over a year old and less than 6k miles. That is the prudent way to buy into a 335i/535i in the UK. New 335i/535i cars are not really on the private buyers list either, as diesel still gets the vote. Virtually financial suicide if you don't keep it long term. Shame, but in the UK larger petrol engines have a very limited market these days. HighlandPete |
