I have this same setup - I think it sounds awesome. I have absolutely no idea how some people describe the system as "anemic" or underwhelming. If you feel this way, I honestly feel you should get it checked out (or your hearing). Not trying to be offensive - I really am perplexed.

I did my best to mimic the "Electronic" setting on the iTunes equalizer for the car's equalizer. Then I bumped the bass up a little over the half way mark. Sounds pretty good to me. I do wish it had a wee bit more mid-bass power....but it is very clear.
Also, if you have an iPod hooked up try setting the equalizer on your iPod to your favorite EQ ('electronic' in my case) before you plug it in and then run it....that sounds pretty awesome to! I have the HK system w/ iDrive. |

BACK FROM THE DEAD!
I used these settings on my 2012. However in the EQ there was no 80hz setting but 100hz instead so I just adjusted the 100hz to the +1 of that it was said for the 80. My question is, im guessing they have changed around the settings and terms...and mine has nothing about Logic 7 listed, but has an option marked surround sound. Im no audiophile and my ear obviously isn't as good as others, but I was unable to notice a difference between Surround on and off. What exact effect does this setting have and what are most people running? As for the EQ settings though, def made a noticeable difference and sounds much better than everything did being zeroed out. Glad I found this thread cause I have no idea how to "tune" an EQ.

11n55. Sounds great to me. Glad I chose this option when ordering and can't wait to try it out once my car arrives. Btw love the song playing. What's the name of it? Kinda sounds like progressive trans which I love. Is it on iTunes?

I am sure the HK sounds awesome, but with the basic system in my 1M there are so many interior rattles when the system is loud that it makes it completely unenjoyable. I don't know how you guys do not have the same issue.

I'm shopping around for a 135i at the moment and I'm wondering how the stock "hi-fi" system and the HK system compare to the stock hi-fi unit in the f30 3 series.
I've test driven the 135 but forgot to bring and cds with me during the last visit. I did listen to the radio but it wasn't really very good quality on the 135. I was quite impressed with the sound system on the new 3 series. None of the dealers in my area have the HK system in a 1 series for me to listen to, so I would be making a blind decision on this. I added the HK system to my order without ever hearing it. Its worth every penny, although it sounds like a $$ from the outside of the car. Not sure if it's the way the subs are facing under the seats or just the general design. I had a loaner that just had the basic hifi system in it and it did the same thing. It just seams that the HK has more power and more adjustability so it's a little worse.
Inside the car it's worth every penny.

Reviving a thread from last year here based on my experience of the HK system in my 2013 135.
People's opinions are only relevant to what they are comparing it to and what their expectations are. I guess I would describe myself as somewhat of an amateur audiophile. My home system is probably very elaborate by most people's standards As an upgrade over the basic system the HK is actually a decent option, I got it in the hope that I could tweak it to satisfy my needs, but unfortunately it doesn't measure up. After 3 weeks of playing with the settings, including countless hours of google time, I am now resigned to the fact that I will be looking at aftermarket options. The mid bass is just not tight enough and the sound is just too bright and fatiguing. I had top of the range Focal splits installed in my previous car, with a small rear Hertz sub, Alpine amps and Dynamat. The system was tuned by a local guy with a great reputation in car audio. The Focal tweeters can be described by some as a little bright but these HKs are considerably brighter. My previous system was the envy of all who heard it for smoothness and clarity and those who have been in my new beemer have all commented on the "disappointing" sound in comparison. Did I expect the HK to be on a par with my previous system? No of course not, I'm not delusional. But I was hoping for something I could live with. So I will soon be looking at upgrade options and obviously spending a bit of money. You get what you pay for....... Last edited by cat-like; 05-28-2013 at 09:34 AM.. |
